Remember these names:

Tempus, Triage, Hijack, Benjamin Deeds and Goldballs…yes Goldballs.

The newest mutants of the X-verse starred in Uncanny X-Men #35 this week. It was an emotional and powerful story of fame, youth and finding your role in a world that loves you…until they fear and hate you. Brian Michael Bendis and artist Valerio Schiti delivered an unexpected tale featuring the rookies that perfectly captures the core of what being an X-Man is.

It may be one of the final times we see them in action.

The new students created by Bendis are not listed in the All-New, All-Different Marvel X-books. Will these kids vanish into the back burner or the void of forgotten mutants? Continue reading ONCE and FUTURE X-MEN

After making and changing mutant history Brian Michael Bendis announced he’s leaving the X-Men with a giant-sized Uncanny X-Men #600.

Bendis brought the original students of Xavier into the present in All-New X-Men and Cyclops started a revolution in Uncanny X-Men.

As the Children of the Atom feel the fallout from Professor X’s greatest secret – Bendis will exit just before Secret Wars.

The acclaimed writer explains why this was the time to leave:

“Over the course of the last few years, I will have written almost 90 issues of X-Men. That’s a good run! One of the best parts about being on X-Men was that I knew I was never going to hit Chris Claremont’s X-Men record, so I was free of whatever that is that drives such a thing,” Bendis exclusively told Comic Book Resources. Just when we thought we had our 15 characters to watch in 2015 – along comes Eva Bell in Uncanny X-Men #29.

Eva aka Tempus is one of the fascinating new mutants created by Brian Michael Bendis in this X-Men run. The Australian can manipulate time. The breakout character starred in her own two-part tale in Uncanny X-Men and All-New X-Men Annuals. Bendis and artist Andrea Sorrentino crafted a tragic, time twisting tale that may have taken you back to the breakthrough Chris Claremont/Bill Sienkiewicz New Mutants era.

But that’s not what made Tempus leap to the top of our characters to watch in 2015 – it’s her implications of her astonishing act in Uncanny X-Men #29!

Before I continue here’s a…

Creating new mutants is hard. For every Gambit, there’s a Maggot. Brian Michael Bendis took on the challenge of writing the X-Men just when the mutant race is booming again with new mutants.

Cyclops, Magneto, Emma Frost and Magik have been recruiting new Children of the Atom for his revolution in All-New X-Men. We’ve met healer Christopher Muse, time manipulator Eva Bell and shape-changer Benjamin Deeds. The teens are now at the covert Charles Xavier School.

Ahead of next week’s Uncanny X-Men #1 Bendis talked about the new recruits on Marvel.com. Eva, Benjamin and Christopher’s lives have suddenly changed but they’ll be looking back.

“They’ll be doing that right away. “Can I go get my stuff? Can I go talk to my mom?” A lot of Australians seem to be very happy that Eva’s from Australia. I wasn’t aware that there was such a dearth of Australian heroes. I got so much happy mail and tweets from Australian people. We will be going back to the Gold Coast in issues #2 and #3 of UNCANNY X-MEN to find out what the deal with Eva is. I like Eva a lot. I like writing her a lot. For people who liked Jessica Jones and Maria Hill, I think they’re going to get a kick Continue reading New Mutants of Uncanny X-Men
