Here’s a first look at James McAvoy on the set of X-Men: Days of Future Past courtesy director Bryan Singer via Twitter. Singer’s reveal comes with the reference of the 1970’s Al Pacino film Serpico and it fits given McAvoy’s long hair and shirt!

McAvoy is reprising his role as the younger Professor Charles Xavier. Sir Patrick Stewart is reprising his role as Professor X too. The upcoming film unites the cast of the original X-Men films and X-Men: First Class.

The new film is set in the 1970’s and an dark future ruled by Sentinels. No word on if McAvoy and Stewart will appear in scenes together.

Bishop and Warpath in X-Men: Days of Future Past

X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer teases two new mutants joining the cinematic Children of the Atom! In a Vine video via Twitter Singer shows chairs for characters like Magneto, Storm and all the returning characters plus two new ones: Bishop and James “Warpath” Proudstar!

This will likely increase speculation that Omar Cy is definitely playing Lucas Bishop, the X-Man from the future with energy projection powers who came back in time to prevent the horrific world he inherited. Bishop recently turned up as a villain in the new Uncanny X-Force.

This also means the new film will take story elements from two different comic book eras. The original Days of Future Past story by Chris Claremont in the 1980’s featured a group of X-Men in prison camps after Sentinels have slaughtered most of the world’s mutants. The survivors send one of their own in the past to prevent a single act that leads to this dark future.

Bishop was introduced in the 1990’s as a member of the X.S.E. (Xavier Security Enforcers.) Lucas Bishop was a mutant cop who tracked down evil mutants in the future who was pulled back in time while pursuing the villain Trevor Fitzroy and was trapped in the past with the X-Men who inspired him. No Cyclops, No Havok in X-Men: Days of Future Past

Havok has been elevated to Marvel flagship book Uncanny Avengers but he’s missing from the next X-Men movie. Alex Summers was recruited by Captain America and Wolverine to lead the new team made of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and mutants. Alex is stepping out of his big brother’s shadow and forging a new hope for mutants. Scott Summers killed Professor X while under the influence of the Phoenix Force and has since formed a mutant team dedicated to the mutant revolution.

Both Summers brothers appear to be out of the next X-Men film. The cast of the original trilogy (Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Daniel Cudmore) will join Continue reading No Cyclops, No Havok in X-Men: Days of Future Past

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Party Like It’s 1973

X-Men: Days of Future Past will unite the cast of the original trilogy (set in the near future) and X-Men: First Class (set in the Cold War 1960’s) but when will the new film take place?

Cue the disco and glam rock!

Director Bryan Singer tweeted this photo showing a CIA report on mutation by Charles Xavier dated 1973.

The film is based on the Chris Claremont story in which X-Men from a dark future send one of their own into the past to rally the earlier X-Men to prevent an assassination that will lead to a government crackdown on mutants – including the creation of Sentinels!

Could this mean Singer’s April 1st tweet about Lady Gaga playing Dazzler was not really April Fool’s? (Fingers crossed!)

Dazzler (Alison Blaire) was created by Claremont in the final days of the disco era and her mutant power was to convert sound into light which she could use as lasers to as a “dazzle” effect that she used in her stage shows as a singer.
