THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Director on MAN OF STEEL

Man of Steel courtesy Warner Brothers

Christopher Nolan says Man of Steel is not exactly like The Dark Knight Trilogy but starring Superman. Nolan is the Executive Producer of the Superman reboot. Zach Snyder is directing. Nolan tells The Playlist.

“Well, somewhat,” he said when asked if Superman fits into the brand of standalone superhero universe we’ve come to know from him. “But I wouldn’t want people to think we’re doing for Superman what we did for Batman.”

“It’s very much Zack’s film and I think people are going to love what he’s done,” he continued. “I think it’s really remarkable to take on that character. Superman is a completely different character than Batman. So you can’t in anyway use the same template. But David Goyer had this, I thought, brilliant way to make Superman relatable and relevant for his audience. Zack has built on that and I think it’s incredible what he’s putting together. He’s got a lot of finishing to do on that. Superman is the biggest comic book character of them all and he needs the biggest possible movie version which is what Zack’s doing. It’s really something.”

Man of Steel opens in 2013.

If Catwoman Was Your Bodyguard

Anne Hathaway will play Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. I’m still not sure which side the cinematic Selina Kyle will choose – the most recent trailer seemed to show her against Bane.

Catwoman #9 courtesy DC Comics

In the comics – Catwoman and Spark will be caught up in the Night of the Owls crossover this week. The Court of Owls have unleashed assassins to take out targets across Gotham City. Nightwing protected the Mayor. Batwing saved Lucius Fox. The Council went after Batgirl’s dad. In Catwoman #9 Selina Kyle and Spark are forced to defend…The Penguin.

I’ve enjoyed every crossover title so far so I’m looking forward to Catwoman against a Talon but of all the targets…she has to save Penguin?

The Dark Knight Rises Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt hints that The Dark Knight Rises will explore the themes similar to the Occupy Wall Street movement. The actor plays Officer John Blake and talked with Sundance Channel’s Sunfiltered.

Christopher Nolan has said A Tale of Two Cities was an element of inspiration for the film. Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle whispers to Bruce Wayne in the trailer “You and your friends better batten down the hatches because when it hits, you’re all going to wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.”

The trailer shows protests in the streets of Gotham City. The cast and crew were filming as the real protests were happening. Fans assume the spirit of that movement is a theme of the final Batman film.

“Yup! I know. You saw it, man. The trailer isn’t misleading and Nolan’s not the type of guy to create a trailer that will sell you something other than what the movie is,” Gordon-Levitt said.

Nightwing: The Lost Year courtesy DC Comics

Back to Geek Dreaming – I’m still curious if Gordon-Levitt’s John Blake will more than just a police officer. Some fans speculated he could become Nightwing. If the film does follow the Knightfall storyline with Bane breaking Batman, I can picture Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the character taking up mantle of protecting Gotham City.

I know Dick Grayson is Robin first but Nightwing’s vibe and costume are so much cooler.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt starred in the excellent romantic indie comedy 500 Days of Summer directed by Marc Webb – who’s directing the Spidey reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man.

Tom Hardy’s Challenge of Playing Bane

The Dark Knight Rises teaser poster courtesy Warner Brothers

Tom Hardy tells The Mirror one of the biggest challenge of playing the villain Bane in The Dark Knight Rises is not being a nice guy.

“It’s such an amazing cast to work alongside, they are all so talented,” Hardy told The Mirror. “I loved being able to play a baddie and, coming from East Sheen in South-West London, that doesn’t come easily to me. I actually had to work on not being very nice. I’m genuinely a nice guy.”

Thanks to Comic Book Resources and their comic reel for the story.

Christian Bale Talks About Visit to Activist in China

The Dark Knight Rises star Christian Bale talks about the incident in China where video shows him and a CNN crew chased after trying to visit an activist Bale admires. The actor praises blind activist Chen Guangcheng in the interview.

“It’s amazing that the man has the power that he does. And to have accomplished what he’s already done in this life” Bale said.
