Greg Rucka is acclaimed for the way he writes female characters (he even led a panel on it at GeekGirlCon) and he’s unleashing his new heroine with Dark Horse Comics. The writer who gave us Tara Chace in the Queen & Country series, Batwoman: Elegy and Lazarus, one of the best new series of this year gives us VEIL.

Here’s how Dark Horse Comics describes the upcoming series: Continue reading Greg Rucka’s VEIL

The Star Wars before Star Wars!

Dark Horse Comics expands it’s Star Wars comic book universe this with an adaptation of George Lucas’s original, pre-edits screenplay for Star Wars in an eight part series called The Star Wars kicking off this week.

Three years before the classic 1977 film, George Lucas put down on paper his first story set in a galaxy far, far away. A story of Jedi Annikin Starkiller and General Luke Skywalker, an alien named Han Solo, and evil Sith Knights. The screenplay was titled The Star Wars! Continue reading THE STAR WARS

Hellboy Summer Camp?

I love living in the Northwest! We’re the home to famous and rising comic book creators and publishers. Quirk is the norm. Odd is cool and accepted. This next story is a perfect example.

Dark Horse Comics and Mike Richardson are working with a wilderness training camp to offer a Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense camp for kid age 9-17 this summer!

The program is designed to teach kids skills used by B.P.R.D. agents. (For non-comic geeks, Hellboy works for the B.P.R.D.)

Dark Horse Comics is based in Portland, Oregon with plenty of city green spaces for the younger recruits and vast forests near Sandy, Oregon for sleep away camps for the older kids.

Star Wars and Serenity United!

Mal Reynolds from this year's Serenity-Star Wars Free Comic Book Day flipbook courtesy Dark Horse Comics

One of my most anticipated books for Free Comic Book Day 2012 is the  Star Wars/Serenity flipbook from Dark Horse Comics. The publisher will delight two fan universes with one comic book.

The Star Wars story will star Han Solo and Chewbacca. Serenity will feature Captain Mal Reynolds. New art and an interview with writer Zach Whedon (his brother Joss created the Firefly/Serenity universe) is on today’s Comic Book Resources.

You might think Han and Mal might find a lot on common – if they weren’t competing for the same smuggling job but Whedon doesn’t see Reynolds and Solo getting along.

“I think if they could get past their initial misgivings – Mal with Han’s shifty, smooth-talking nature. Han with Mal’s stoic solider routine – they’d have a lot to talk about. But I think it’s more likely they’d butt heads, possibly literally,” said Whedon.
