X-MEN CHRISTMAS HAUNTING

Every Christmas we present favorite holiday moments with the mutants but this year is “extra” special.

Let’s go back to Uncanny X-Men #365 by Steven Seagle and Chris Bachalo with a Leinil Yu cover. In A Ghost of X-mas Past, Colossus is haunted by the ghost of his sister, Illyana on Christmas Eve.

In this 1999 issue the Russian mutant is in mourning after his baby sister dies from the Legacy Virus. The X-Man (and artist) is haunted by a ghost who inspires his paintings of an Ice Princess without a face. The spirit only says one word to Colossus:

“Remember” Continue reading X-MEN CHRISTMAS HAUNTING

Making MAGIK in X-MEN by BENDIS

I confess.

I did NOT like Illyana Rasputin.

Magik has one of the most complicated origin stories in comics. She went from little girl to teen demon sorceress in an instant then a child again, then died, then resurrected with an evil persona. A confusing back story paired with just plain vicious treatment of fellow mutants made her unlikeable.

There’s cold and cool like Emma Frost and then there’s just cruel like Illyana’s treatment of her big brother Colossus.

Cyclops, Emma, Magneto and Magik were the central cast of Uncanny X-Men by Brian Michael Bendis. The broken powers of each character led to vulnerability for each powerhouse – that made them more compelling than ever.

As we experience the final chapters of the Bendis run it’s time to look back and give credit where it’s due. Continue reading Making MAGIK in X-MEN by BENDIS

X-MEN INFERNO FIRES UP AGAIN

With Secret Wars anything is possible.

Even a demon infested New York City.

After taking on Sentinels, Brotherhoods of Evil Mutants, The Brood and hate-mongering crusaders the X-Men faced pure evil in the form of a demonic invasion in Inferno.

It’s mutants vs. demons all over again as Secret Wars gives us a new Battleworld made of slices of Marvel history. Inferno takes us into this satanic Warzone by Dennis Hopeless (Avengers Arena, Spider-Woman) and Javier Garron (Cyclops.)

The story centers on the twisted Rasputin brother and sister. Illyana/Magik was raised in Limbo and her demons literally came back to haunt her. This time Colossus will rise up and lead the crusade against the invaders. Continue reading X-MEN INFERNO FIRES UP AGAIN

The Merc With a Mouth may have a leading lady but is she a love interest or super villain?

Gina Carano has joined the cast of Fox’s Deadpool according to The Hollywood Reporter as a character named Angel Dust. The mixed martial artist turned actress (Haywire) plays a character known as a super strong Morlock, a tribe of mutants living under New York City.

One of the mutants oldest enemies comes stomping back in Amazing X-Men #15 this week.

It’s part of why writer Chris Yost brought the Russian X-Man of steel back into the fold in part.

The Juggernaut is back!

At New York Comic Con – Marvel revealed one of the mutants’ oldest adversaries returns in Amazing X-Men #15.

Now we see why writer Chris Yost brought the Russian man of steel back into the fold.

The gem of Cyttorak falls back to Earth in The Once and Future Juggernaut.

Professor X’s brother once possessed the power. During Fear Itself Cain Marko was transformed by the power of the Asgardian God of Fear. Colossus assumed the power while in the Cyttorak dimension but after the Phoenix possession in Avengers vs. X-Men, Magik cast the Juggernaut powers of her brother.
