THOR 2 Major Villain

Tom Hiddleston as Loki & Chris Hemsworth as Thor in Thor courtesy Marvel

Expect a heavy hitter to hammer down on Chris Hemsworth in THOR 2 but it will not be the big purple bad at the end of The Avengers. I won’t reveal the ending just in case you’re not among the billions that have seen Earth’s Mightiest Movie.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige tells Empire “But there will be a major new villain. A major, major new antagonist.”

Who will it be? Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale)is (rumored, in talks, final negotiations – all depending on which site you read) up for a role in Thor 2. Here are my thoughts on which villain he might play.

Chris Hemsworth & Charlize Theron Clash in New “Show White & The Huntsman” Scene

courtesy Universal

Chris Hemsworth is flying high as Thor in Marvel’s The Avengers but he’s not so heroic and regal in his next big screen role. Hemsworth is confronted by Charlize Theron (Prometheus) in a new scene from Snow White and the Huntsman courtey of Yahoo and Universal.

A big year for Hemsworth (he was also in Cabin in the Woods.) I’m excited for this dark and gritty take on the classic story. Director Rupert Sanders appears to have created a nightmarish fairy tale. Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1st. Kristin Stewart of Twilight is the lead. This is a version of the tale I can see in Fables.

Thunderous New Avengers Spot

Marvel's The Avengers courtesy Marvel.com

I admit I had my doubts about taking the Asgardian God of Thunder from comic book to big screen was a challenge but Marvel and director Kenneth Branaugh pulled it off majestically. Chris Hemsworth displayed all the charm, swagger, and power as Thor.

In this new Avengers extended television spot we get to see more of Hemsworth laying the hammer down and radiating the Thunder God aura. Thanks to Marvel and Spinoff Online.

Before Chris Hemsworth swings his hammer as Thor this May he will running for his life in The Cabin in the Woods on April 13th. A second trailer debuted on Fear Net for the long-awaited film by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard. The trailer is spoiler heavy but gets you excited for what looks like a hybrid of slasher in the woods/supernatural creatures/conspiracy horror flicks.

Best Mix of Marvel Mythology in one movie while still keeping it accessible: Captain America: The First Avenger

Honorary Award: James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier. Michael Fassbender received most of the praise but he had the more demanding role. Everyone roots for the anti-hero. Xavier was the optimistic, steady yin to Erik’s passionate, revenge driven yang.  Xavier is the mentor to the other characters and McAvoy was the rock for the rest of the cast.

Tom Hiddleston as Loki & Chris Hemsworth as Thor in Thor courtesy Marvel

Honorary Award: Kenneth Branaugh! I had serious doubts about making Norse Gods, Asgard, and the Nine Realms accessible and enjoyable but he pulled it off beautifully. His Shakespearean background was perfect to infuse the Odin, Thor, Loki conflict with power and drama.

A stellar year for Marvel superhero fans at the box-office. Great action, inspiration, and emotion. Thanks to all the creators and actors who accepted the challenge of bringing our heroes to the big screen.
