Batgirl Catwoman Halloween Preview!

Batgirl Annual #1 courtesy DC Comics

You might see some Batgirls and Catwomen out this Halloween! DC Comics is treating fans to the first meeting between Barbara Gordon and Selena Kyle on Halloween/New Comic Book Wednesday. Batgirl Annual #1 out next week features the first meeting in The New 52 between these formidable females.

“BATGIRL ANNUAL #1 tells the tale of Batgirl’s first meeting with Catwoman and how they are somewhat like oil and water,” editor Brian Cunningham tells The Source. “I can’t say enough great things about Admira Wijaya and Daniel Sampere’s art. Their unique approach makes this Annual look very special, and you have not heard the last of these guys, I can assure you of that.”

Barbara will have more trouble in this issue – the Talon from Night of the Owls is back for a rematch!

Batman and Justice League for Halloween?

I grew up in a small town with no little options for Halloween. I lucked out and found a Darth Vader costume and wore it year after year. I was a tall kid so I worked it! Last year I was Green Lantern – Ryan Reynolds, watch out!

DC Comics heroes are icons that will never go away! With the success of The Dark Knight Rises, the Superman reboot on the way and the possibility of a Justice League movie it’s never been a better time to suit up as a member of the Justice League for Halloween!

The newer Batman is always a dark neo-classic and there’s even a nearly $400.00 dollar Dark Knight outfit  that might attract the purrfect Catwoman at your holiday party!  You could go a little more gosh darn wholesome and for the retro Batman look of the Adam West series.

Enjoy your Halloween! Be safe!

Batgirl Meets Catwoman

Batgirl #13 courtesy DC Comics

Batgirl #13 features a first time meeting and a deadly reunion for Barbara Gordon this week! Batgirl and Catwoman will cross paths for the first time in The New 52! Will Barbara and Selena Kyle connect or clash? Artist Ed Benes joins Gail Simone for the latest chapter.

In Batgirl #9 Gail Simone wrote one of my favorite tie-ins to the Batman: Night of the Owls crossover. The Talon Barbara faced on the Night of the Owls is back with a vengeance in this issue too!

It only gets more dangerous for Barbara! The Joker returns in Death of the Family starting in this week’s Batman #13. The villain will target Batman’s allies and some enemies. Barbara’s “reunion” with the Joker will happen in Batgirl #15.

New Justice League of America Announced

Justice League of America #1 courtesy DC Comics

DC Comics announced a brand new Justice League of America series by Geoff Johns (Justice League, Green Lantern) and David Finch (Batman: The Dark Knight) at Fan Expo Canada.

Steve Trevor will recruit an eclectic team of heroes to fight the Secret Society of Super Villains. Th roster pulls from the New 52, JSA and a shocker.

Martian Manhunter, Catwoman, Hawkman, Green Arrow, Stargirl, Vibe, Katana and the new Green Lantern. (Baz will be the first Arab Lantern debuting in September’s Green Lantern #0)

Geoff Johns tells MTV Geek why this new version of the team forms:

“The idea of why the JLA forms, and what it is, and what it’s in reaction to… It kind of spins out of Justice League #12; what happens in that, and then subsequent issues, because JLA comes out next year some time. But the book itself is a group of heroes that aren’t necessarily coming together because they want to be together… They’ve been selected specifically. They all want, or need something that Steve Trevor, and the other person behind the scenes that’s in charge of this team can provide.

The first arc is going to deal with something they learn is called The Secret Society of Super-Villains.”

There are a lot of surprise choices in this roster – Vibe? The choice that will make me try this book is Catwoman. Why is Batman’s femme fatale on the team?

“Catwoman is a very different perspective, and is brought in for a very different reason. She stays because they have something that she wants… And it’s not at all what you’d expect. It’s not a big diamond, it’s not a get out of jail free card, it’s something she’s been searching for that’s going to lead to a whole exploration of a side of Selina Kyle we haven’t yet seen.

But she is going to have a lot of fun on the team, she is going to be the Veronica to Stargirl’s Betty, if you will, and she has a new dynamic because we haven’t really seen her interact much with all these characters. Some of them not at all, like Vibe, and Stargirl… There’s not a lot of interaction between her and Martian Manhunter, and I don’t think she’s ever interacted with Steve Trevor that I can remember. Catwoman has a very different reason for being on the team.”

Catwoman Joins Injustice Game

Injustice: Gods Among Us image courtesy DC Comics The Source

If you loved Anne Hathaway as Selena Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises then you may want to get your claws on Injustice: Gods Among Us. Catwoman is the latest femme fatale (Harley Quinn has already been revealed) to join the upcoming game from WB Games. Check out this vignette courtesy Comic Book Resources. This Selena is cool like Hathaway’s version but packs the female fury of Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns. Wonder Woman, Nightwing, Soloman Grundy, Flash, Superman and Cyborg also appear in the game coming in 2013. Check it out -but watch out for the claws!

The Joker Strikes The Batman Family

Batman #14 courtesy DC Comics

The Joker returns in October’s Batman #13. DC Comics released the Batman family book solicits for November with new images of the Joker and his plans for Batman in the Death of the Family crossover. Batman #14 shows a chilling image of the Joker in his own makeshift Batcave-like control center watching his targets.

Batman and Robin #14, Catwoman #14 and Batgirl #14 will tie-in to Death of the Family as the Joker plots against Selena Kyle, Damian Wayne and Barbara Gordon.

The most haunting image is for Batgirl #14. As discussed this past weekend at GeekGirlCon, Gail Simone has made Batgirl a story of overcoming trauma. Barbara has come so far – it will be gripping to see her face the criminal that left her paralyzed in their last encounter and threatens her real family now.

The November issues set the stage for Death of the Family affecting Nightwing and Red Hood and the Outlaws in December. By Editor
