The DC Comics relaunch continues this week with DC power women in new books and new arcs.

Dinah Lance hits the road and rocks out in Black Canary #1. The brand new series by writer Brenden Fletcher (Batgirl, Gotham Academy) and artist Annie Wu (Hawkeye) sees the Bird of Prey become a rock and roll runaway with a band on the the run and conspiracy on her trail.

Earlier this year at Emerald City Comicon, Fletcher said he will re-establish Dinah as one of the most dangerous martial artists in DC Comics calling this new book a “kung fu rock and roll road trip” while she’s on tour with a band and “it all ties back to Dinah’s origins.” Continue reading BLACK CANARY Rock and Road Trip Begins

BATGIRL Team In DC CHAMPIONS OF JUSTICE at ECCC

DC Comics brought out the star power behind recent breakout hits at the DC Champions of Justice panel at Emerald City Comicon.

Moderator Hank Kanalz asked Batgirl creative team Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher and Babs Tarr about how they came together.

Stewart was committed to Fight Club 2 and for co-writer, the only choice was longtime friend Brenden Fletcher. For art Stewart wanted a woman and recruited Tarr after seeing her on Tumblr. She had never drawn sequential pages before but had “sass” needed for their vision. Tarr revealed how for a long time she didn’t know the DC mystery project was Batgirl and she’s taking on sole art duties with issue 41 in June. New Team On BATGIRL, New GAIL SIMONE Mystery Project

A new creative team and new look for Batgirl. Gail Simone is leaving the Gotham City heroine after relaunching Barbara Gordon into The New 52 era.

 

Cameron Stewart (Batman, Incorporated) and Brenden Fletcher (Wednesday Comics) will be the new co-writers with Babs Tarr on art according to MTV News.
