James Bond will return in Spectre.

EON Productions, MGM and Sony announced the title and cast of the 24th 007 film in the iconic film series. Daniel Craig returns as Bond for fourth time with director Sam Mendes back to direct after the critical and billion dollar success of the last adventure, Skyfall.

The title is a blast from the past. SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-Intelligence, Terror Revenge and Extortion) was an evil organization led by Ernst Stavro Blofeld in Ian Fleming’s novels.

The first teaser poster is an homage to the symbol of the ring worn by SPECTRE operatives in the Sean Connery 007 films.

Happy Birthday Ian Fleming & Bond Girls in Cannes

courtesy 007.com

On this day in 1908 James Bond creator Ian Fleming was born in London.

Skyfall Bond girl Berenice Marlohe was joined by Carole Bouquet (For Your Eyes Only) and Martine Beswick (From Russia, With Love and Thunderball) appeared at the Cannes Film Festival to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the James Bond film series. Bouquet played Melina Havelock on For Your Eyes Only opposite Roger Moore. She still looks stunning. This photo and red carpet footage of Marlohe and Beswick is courtesy 007.com.

I’m still not sure if Severine (Marlohe’s character) is a heroine, villainess of perhaps a bad girl that goes good after sleeping with James Bond (Daniel Craig.)

Doesn’t it seem like the Cannes Film Festival would be an exciting location for a James Bond story? I recommend Never Dream of Dying by Raymond Benson setting in Cannes and Corsica. It was final part of The Union Trilogy. Bond’s fling with a scandalous actress leads him to her producer husband, an ally in a terrorist attack by the Union.

Daniel Craig is in dangerous and debonair form.

“Visually we’re in very safe hands because Roger Deakins is shooting this movie, which is just phenomenal,” said Daniel Craig tole Empire. “It has a classic feel to it. I won’t lie to you: we’ve tried to sort of bring some of the feelings of older Bond movies into this film — but this is a modern movie.”

This Geek’s Opinion: I was thrilled when Naomie Harris joined the cast as an MI6 agent named Eve. I’ve been a big fan of her work since 28 Days Later.

Berenice Marlohe plays a mystery woman named Severine. She continues the tradition of French actresses as Bond girls

This is the first time we’ve seen Oscar Winner Ralph Fiennes from the film. He’s taking aim. Fans speculate Fiennes is playing a rogue MI6 agent or an even more elaborate theory is that he will take over for Dame Judi Dench as M.

MI6 reports that Greek actress Tonia Sotiropoulou will join the cast of the new James Bond film Skyfall and begin filming on location in Istanbul, Turkey later this month.

“This is the happiest day of my life so far! I feel very lucky and blessed, but basically, I am very grateful that this happened, for my family and my friends who believe in me and support trying to do. I will do the best, I am very proud because somehow it might be something that will advertise in Greece and I am happy about it,” the actress said to local press in her home country.

Sotiropoulou auditioned for the role of Severine but went to Berenice Marlohe.

New Bond Girl Naomie Harris is sharing her excitement for the role and how she sees her character.

“I never thought it was a possibility, so it’s hugely exciting to be a Bond girl. I’m loving it. I love Sam Mendes. He’s a fantastic director. And Daniel Craig is incredible to work with, so I feel incredibly lucky.”

Harris plays a MI6 field agent named Eve and tells ContactMusic about how she sees her role and the training to play a female spy.

“My character would like to see herself as a female bond but I don’t think anyone’s really a match for Bond.”

“I kickbox and do a lot with guns. I started off terrified by the sound of a gun let alone having any idea how to hold one but now I really enjoy it.

Harris, presented at the First Light Awards 2012. First Light provides funding and expertise to enable five to 25 year olds to make their own short digital films and media projects. I’m sure the awards and this actress providing encouragement the next generation of British filmmakers. The film’s director Sam Mendes was a judge for the competition.

Thanks to MI6 and Contact Music for the stories.

I’ve loved Naomie Harris since 28 Days Later. If she can handle a gun the way she worked that machete then looked out bad guys in Skyfall!

In another interview

“My character would like to see herself as a female bond but I don’t think anyone’s really a match for Bond.”

Daniel Craig’s first Bond Girl could be the villainess in the 300 sequel. Heat Vision of The Hollywood Reporter says producers want Eva Green to play Artemesia in 300: The Battle for Artemesia.

Green was Vesper in Casino Royale. The French actress would play a gold covered goddess who influences the Persian conqueror Xerses into battle against the Greeks.

Dark Horse Comics is publishing Xerses, a graphic novel series by creator Frank Miller according to Spinoff Online.
