A moment to thank Ridley Scott for giving us a true science fiction masterpiece 30 years ago today. Blade Runner was daring, visionary, compelling and thoughtful. Scott is said to be returning to that world in a new film. Everyone has their favorite version and favorite line. Here’s the trailer for The Final Cut. I’ve seen and own every version. Ridley Scott’s return to science fiction is almost here. Prometheus goes back into the Alien universe. Imagine Scott having a creative hand in the making of another sci-fi icon – the Daleks?
Scott worked in the BBC design department where he would have designed Doctor Who’s arch enemies – if not for a scheduling conflict – according to a new interview with The Independent.
Scott is returning to his other sci-fi classic. The director’s next project is a sequel to Blade Runner but don’t expect Harrison Ford as the lead reprising Rick Deckard but don’t rule out an appearance.”I don’t think it’ll be Harry [starring]. But I’ve got to have him in it somewhere. That’d be amusing.”

Michael Fassbender is creepy brilliant in the trailers for Prometheus. The actor is revealing the inspirations for this performance as “David” to GQ. He cites David Bowie, Lawrence of Arabia and Ridley Scott suggested he watch The Servant with Dirk Bogarde.

Back to David Bowie…I wonder which of Bowie’s ‘alien’ characters he refers to as his inspiration? Ziggy Stardust? I’m sure it’s Nicholas Roeg’s The Man Who Fell To Earth. This was Bowie’s first film role as an alien who comes to earth to bring back water to his drought stricked planet. The alien creates many inventions and forms a huge financial empire before…well I don’t want to give it away.

Ridley Scott is returning to the world of Blade Runner but don’t expect another Rick Deckard (played by Harrison Ford) as the lead. After Scott was asked about his long line of films starring strong female leads (Alien, G.I. Jane, Thelma and Louise) by The Daily Beast turned to the Blade Runner sequel.
“Funny enough, I started my first meetings on the Blade Runner sequel last week. We have a very good take on it. And we’ll definitely be featuring a female protagonist.”

As I posted yesterday – Blade Runner writer Hampton Fancher is in talks to work on the sequel.
As for strong women – who could forget Daryl Hannah as Pris and Joanna Cassidy as Zhora. While not as kick ass as Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley in Alien, these actresses were true femme fatales.These beautiful replicants even their feminity and seduction skills as weapons.

“If you could see what I’ve seen with your eyes,” is just one of the many quotes from Rutger Hauer as the doomed Roy Batty in Blade Runner. I love that movie. I’ve seen every version. I own the collector’s edition case. I’ve studied it over and over.
Ridley Scott is returning to the world of the other science fiction classic he created. Hampton Fancher is in talks to create an idea for a sequel to the classic film for Scott and Alcon Entertainment according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The story goes on to say that the sequel is set “some years after the first film concluded” according to Alcon. I wonder which ending of the first film Scott will use to springboard into the future. I’m sure The Final Cut version.

Can you tell I’m a little excited about this? I think I’m more thrilled Scott’s return to the Alien mythos in Prometheus but I can’t wait to see how he expands the world of Blade Runner.

Michael Fassbender plays an android named David in Ridley Scott’s (it has Alien DNA) Prometheus. Viral marketing (under the guise of a commercial from Weyland Industries) revealed David is a product of Weyland, the company that connects Alien and Prometheus.
Pocket-lint makes a great point: You might assume that Fassbender based his performance on Ash (played by Ian Holm) in Alien or Bishop (Lance Henricksen) in Aliens. But the actor says he looked to another Ridley Scott directed sci-fi classic and…Olympic medalist Greg Louganis?
“I watched Blade Runner,” said Fassbender during a Q&A in London that Pocket-lint attended. “I watched The Servant with Dirk Bogarde. Laurence of Arabia. The Man Who Fell to Earth. And Greg Louganis.
“It’s the way he moved. When I was younger, his weird walk made me laugh.”
“It’s very centred,” he continued. “There’s an economy of movement. I thought that would work out.”
