Mike Madrid traced the history of Batgirl, Black Canary and other fan-favorite icons in The Supergirls: Fashion, Feminism and the History of Comic Book Heroines.

Arrow Villain Cast

Stephen Amell courtesy IMDB

The CW’s Arrow television pilot has its hero, leading lady and now a villain? Colin Donnell has been cast as Tommy Merlyn according to Deadline. The character is described as the hero’s best friend and a playboy.

In DC Comics Merlyn is Green Arrow’s arch-enemy and also a master of archery. Merlyn was affiliated with the Injustice Society and the League of Assassins. No word on if the character in the television pilot will become the super villain.

Stephen Amell is playing Oliver Queen, Katie Cassidy is playing Dinah Laurel Lance – an attorney and not Black Canary.

Green Arrow’s Love Interest Cast

Katie Cassidy

Katie Cassidy will play the love interest in Arrow the new television pilot based on DC Comics hero Green Arrow reports TV Line.

Cassidy’s character is an attorney named Laurel. No word on if “Laurel” will become Black Canary. Cassidy appeared on Gossip Girl, Melrose Place, Supernatural and in the Nightmare on Elm Street remake and Taken. Stephen Amell is playing Oliver Queen.

I can definitely picture Cassidy working the Black Canary look! Black Canary was part of a short-lived Birds of Prey series on the WB. The new CW pilot is not based on the Oliver Queen that appeared on Smallville.
