Batman Artist Designing Evil

The Batman family of titles will invaded by the Court of Owls and their ruthless assassins, The Talons in May’s crossover Night of the Owls. The Court has been a secret manipulator of Gotham City for years. The Talons will sport different looks from the past. Batman artist Greg Capullo is revealing his designs for the Talon on The Source.

“Same approach as the 1660s owl, basically,” said Batman artist Greg Capullo of the 1770s Talon, who will be resurrected to menace Batman and Robin. “I looked at that period’s military. I was happy to find less frilly stuff. Overall, the period looks more bad-ass, despite the stockings.”

Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s macabre masterpiece that is Batman Vs The Court of Owls continues with a bloody night at the theater . After last month’s mind warping journey through the Owls’ labyrinth Batman takes a vicious beating while the Court cheers on their sinister champion, the Talon.

Capullo makes you feel the pain in Bruce’s battered body and you get uncomfortably close enough to his bloodshot eyes. We see just how massive, depraved and creepy the Council is and their surprise they’re about to unleash on Gotham City and Batman is chilling.

The Night of the Owls is coming this May. The Council of Owls tighten their claws on Gotham City and take on the entire Batman family. The secret society has an army of ruthless assassins to execute their plot. Batman artist Greg Capullo shares how he came up with the design for the Talon on The Source.

“I thought about owls for a minute, and the hooded owl sprang to mind,” said Batman artist Greg Capullo about the creation of the original Talon. “So I gave him a hood like an executioner. As for the lines of the suit, I let the thought of birds guide my hand. An owl design simply made sense.”

Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy ends with the introduction of new foes in Gotham City.

Producer Emma Thomas (AKA Mrs. Christopher Nolan) spoke with Total Film about the addition of Bane and what Tom Hardy brings to The Dark Knight Rises.

“Tom made a massive physical transformation for the role… It really is an intense performance,” Thomas said, “He finally feels like a match for Batman – both physically and mentally.”

“Christian Bale and Tom Hardy are both such fiercely committed actors that pitching them as adversaries works incredibly well – they have such a great chemistry on camera.”

And on Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman, Thomas teased. “It’s completely new,” she says, “and it’s a really interesting role. You never quite know where you are with her.”

Does this mean we will not see the love/hate relationship between Bruce and Selena?

Gary Oldman is a stunning actor to watch. From his brooding Dracula to insidious but outrageous Zorg in The Fifth Element to good cop Jim Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s Batman films, Oldman is a true artist. Who impresses him?

Gary Oldman discusses Michael Caine’s work in the final Batman film and gives a hint at a critical scene in The Dark Knight Rises in a new interview with Collider.

“There’s an emotional scene coming up in the next Batman, which I am obviously, absolutely sworn to secrecy about… They would kill me.  Well, I’d do the press junket and then they’d kill me.”

“Watching Michael Caine work, as Alfred, was a great lesson for me.  Just focus, concentration.  He has this emotional scene.  I’m kidding you not.  It was tears and the whole thing.  And it’s ‘Take 1.’  (Oldman snaps his fingers) He got it.  ‘Take 2′ (snaps his fingers again), Got it.  Take 3 (snaps his fingers) Got it.  He’s just on the money.  Every single time.  It’s just extraordinary… You get inspired by it.”  He adds that Caine “loves cricket.  He loves soccer.  So, he comes to the set and (he) wants to get it done.  He doesn’t fuck around because he wants to get back to cricket.”  He even gave a little Caine impersonation, “I’ve got to get back.”

You can find the entire interview here. The story is a must for Gary Oldman fans with insight on his many roles.
