Phoenix Versus Scarlet Witch!

I almost posted this last night but couldn’t wrap my head around it but after today’s Avengers Versus X-Men announcement – my brain is spinning!

Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix versus Scarlet Witch (during the Avengers Disassembled period.)

Who would win?

Both formidable females are beautiful, all powerful, consumed by their power and out of control because of their emotion.

Two beloved women on two of the most important teams in comic history. What would happen if these two women at their most powerful…went to war? Continue reading Phoenix Versus Scarlet Witch!

Loki’s Army in The Avengers? Agent Coulson Speaks

In Marvel Comics history Loki’s scheming causes the Avengers to assemble. Loki is the main villain behind the big screen assembling of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes but who has his back against combined forces of Thor, Iron Man, Captain America and SHIELD?

Clark Gregg plays SHIELD Agent Coulson in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor and The Avengers. Comic Book Movie has an exclusive with the actor.

When asked if fans will recognize Loki’s army, Gregg responded, “Well I guess that will depend on the fan and what they’ve read and what they’ve seen,” said Gregg. Jokingly, he went on to say, “I mean if they’re fans of Land of the Lost then they won’t be surprised to see Loki show up with a bunch of Sleestaks. I think everyone is going to be surprised to see Loki get out of a Romulan ship is all I’m going to say.”

The answer could get minds warping with all kinds of speculation. It certainly could add fuel to the fire that the Skrulls are allied with Loki. The Skrull are reptilian aliens with shapeshifting powers.

In Marvel history, when Kree-Skrull War threatened Earth the Avengers held the line. In the epic Secret Invasion – the Skrulls infiltrated every super hero team with shapeshifters in their plot to conquer our planet.

Being the God of Mischief, Loki is likely to be the instigator of a conflict between Earth and the Skrulls – if that turns out to be the case.

Special note: The Tesseract was a device from Asgardian myth sought after by the Red Skull in the Captain America movie. This device is a variation (different name though) of the Cosmic Cube. In Marvel history, it was theorized that the Skrulls created one of the Cosmic Cubes.

Jeremy Renner on The Avengers

The Avengers, Jason Bourne, Mission Impossible – Jeremy Renner is racking up the action roles!

Renner is talking about the challenges of playing Hawkeye in a huge movie like The Avengers.

“It’s huge. Look how many characters are in that thing,” Renner tells Collider and adds that “It was the ultimate challenge for Joss Whedon, who knows that universe so well.”

Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America all had solo movies before the Avengers. Hawkeye was briefly seen in Thor. SHIELD agent Coulson called him by his real name, Clint Barton. If The Avengers is a hit could this lead to a Hawkeye solo movie?

Renner told Collider, “I certainly like the character. But, I don’t know what the future holds.”

I certainly have my fanboy ideas – let’s hope Joss scripts hot chemistry and a love scene between Hawkeye and Black Widow. In the comics – Hawkeye and the Widow have a romance during a caper involving technology stolen from Tony Stark.

Hawkeye and Mockingbird #1 cover courtesy Marvel.com

I’m hoping for a solo movie because that could mean a big screen version of a character I love: Mockingbird. Clint falls for SHIELD agent Bobbi Morse who goes by the code name: Mockingbird. Maybe Joss has a Bobbi cameo in The Avengers?

Who should play Mockingbird? (Blake Lively, Jennifer Morrison, Michelle Williams)

Casting courtesy of my friend and associate: Rich Roberge!

The New Masters of Evil: Feel the Fury!

Marvel is unveiling the new Masters of Evil and today’s reveal was a shocker: Max Fury!

I was excited to report that Uncanny X-Force writer Rick Remender will take over Secret Avengers in 2012 with Hawkeye as the new team leader.

Today Marvel gave new details about Remender’s first issue. In Secret Avengers 21.1 Captain America and Hawkeye’s covert team ventures into a nation run by criminals for criminals.

The Masters of Evil is one of the largest and longest running alliances of villains in the Marvel universe. Baron Zemo, Ultron, Egghead and Doctor Octopus have been some of the criminal masterminds who gathered teams to oppose the Avengers.

Avengers #277 courtesy Marvel.com

One of my favorite clashes between The Avengers and the Masters of Evil was in Avengers: Under Siege by Roger Stern in Avengers #273-#277. The villains had the audacity to storm Avengers mansion. This version led by Helmut Zemo was the most powerful and the plan was to overwhelm the heroes with raw power.

Marvel delivered a new twist on the Masters of Evil when the villains posed as heroes called the Thunderbolts. Ironically some of the members of this incarnation liked being heroes and renounced their evil ways.

Stay tuned as Marvel reveals more members in the latest incarnation of the supervillain alliance.
