Benedict Cumberbatch is winning raves for portraying Alan Turing in The Imitation Game. The Sherlock star is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Strange.

While promoting his new film, Cumberbatch was asked if becoming a super hero was a risk and what’s the appeal of the Sorcerer Supreme.

“I don’t think it’s a risk because of Marvel. Marvel is a stable of bringing out ordinary comic characters and turning them into screen-like gods. It’s very different, it’s an Astral Plane. There’s a huge new element to this Marvel universe that’s going to be employed in building this story and this character. But you know, I’m really excited about it, about working with Scott [Derrickson] whose imagination is endless, and all the boys and girls at Marvel who know what they’re doing. Marvel’s most dysfunctional family is getting twisted and tortured again after a major revelation in Avengers and X-Men: AXIS #7.

Scarlet Witch and Doctor Doom’s inversion spell to stop the wrath of the Red Onslaught (Red Skull with the power of Professor X’s brain) worked but the spell inverted the moral compass of heroes and villains in the battle zone.

Inverted X-Men allied under Apocalypse have taken over Manhattan. Inverted Avengers are ready to kill their enemies. Only Steve Rogers and inverted villains are the last hope. Magneto is leading the bad guys gone good (including Carnage and Sabretooth.)

Magneto and Quicksilver’s manipulations in House of M lead to Scarlet Witch declaring, “No More Mutants.”

Marvel revealed the official website for Avengers: Age of Ultron.

It’s bare bones but bares the ominous Ultron-ized “A” team logo.

Fans can see the official trailer, hear what might be music from the sequel’s soundtrack, downloads and synopsis.

Marvel revealed via the Guardians of the Galaxy Twitter that the Digital HD and Blu Ray will include a set visit to the Avengers sequel with director Joss Whedon and new footage of Scarlet Witch demonstrating her power.

Marvel makes it official:

Have they conjured the perfect actor to play the Master of the Mystic Arts?

Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game, Sherlock, Star Trek Into Darkness, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) will play the title hero in Doctor Strange.

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”
