Your comic book store may be shaking this week! Two titanic talents team up for a clash of titans in Asgard! Legendary Thor writer/artist Walter Simonson joins Mark Waid in this week’s Indestructible Hulk #6 guest starring Thor.

In Marvel’s The Avengers Hulk famously sneaked in a sucker punch on the Odinson. Expect a rematch between the Green Goliath and God of Thunder in this upcoming Indestructible Hulk arc.

Mark Waid told Marvel.com how the first arc leads into the second and Banner’s mission:

“Bruce Banner learned a lot about his new crew of assistants; as he points out, their common denominator is that they all have a big secret in their lives—a “hidden self,” if you will –and the secret one of them is harboring is what makes the mission to Jotunheim, land of the Frost Giants, a priority for Bruce.

Chris Hemsworth as the Odinson returns to Asgard in Thor: The Dark World. Marvel shared the first picture from the set of Hemsworth in costume with director Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones.) The sequel introduces the Malekith (played by former Doctor Who Christopher Eccleston) and the Dark Elves to the movie mythology. Here’s the official synopsis:

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Thor: The Dark World arrives November 8, 2013.

Two titanic talents team up for a clash of titans in Asgard! Legendary Thor writer/artist Walter Simonson is joining Mark Waid for an upcoming arc of Indestructible Hulk guest starring Thor in April. Expect Banner’s trip to Asgard to be a SMASH!

In Marvel’s The Avengers Hulk famously sneaked in a sucker punch on the Odinson. In Indestructible Hulk #2 Bruce showed up Tony Stark in the labs of SHIELD and by unleashing the Hulk on Iron Man. Could the reinvigorated and bold Bruce be testing his power by going after the God of Thunder?

Mark Waid told Marvel.com how the first arc leads into the second and Banner’s mission:

“Bruce Banner learned a lot about his new crew of assistants; as he points out, their common denominator is that they all have a big secret in their lives—a “hidden self,” if you will –and the secret one of them is harboring is what makes the mission to Jotunheim, land of the Frost Giants, a priority for Bruce.

On the face of it, Banner claims that he’s taking his crew to Jotunheim in search of a specific element that exists only at Frost Giant temperatures. But Bruce has a hidden motive, as well. The real fun of it is how Bruce and his team get to Jotunheim in the first place; it’s a nifty piece of applied science, if I do say so myself.”

Banner reports to Maria Hill now so obviously SHIELD has an interest in the journey to Asgard.

“S.H.I.E.L.D.’s buying in to Bruce’s search for the Frost Giant metal—the scientific applications are myriad—but it’s one of Bruce’s assistants who has the most to lose or gain, and you’ll be surprised at the who and the why.

Indestructible Hulk #6 smashes into comic shops this April! For more of Waid’s interview here’s the Marvel.com link.

THOR: God of Thunder #1 Review

Thor: God of Thunder #1 courtesy Marvel

A serial killer of mythic power is stalking the Gods in Thor: God of Thunder #1. Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic relaunch the Odinson with an entertaining and gripping hybrid of detective story and dark legend.

In the distant past a young Viking Thor is celebrating victory with his Norsemen when chunks of a dead body wash ashore. The victim is a God of the East and this past prologue ends with an elder in deep prayer. Is she praying to or for her Gods?

The creative team takes us the present on an alien world where Thor answers a girl’s prayer and soon discovers a temple turned slaughterhouse. This sequence has moments reminiscent of Alien when the Nostromo crew discovers the Space God. Thor begins to piece together the crimes of past and present and gives a chilling prediction: more Gods will die.

The final chapter is in the far future in which an old King Thor is deformed and alone in a last stand against an onslaught of invaders attacking a broken Asgard.

Jason Aaron masterfully captures three different Thors appropriate for each era and wraps each time period’s storyline into a lightning quick and compelling debut.
