“Blade Runner” Sequel Will Feature a Female Lead

Ridley Scott is returning to the world of Blade Runner  but don’t expect another Rick Deckard (played by Harrison Ford) as the lead. After Scott was asked about his long line of films starring strong female leads (Alien, G.I. Jane, Thelma and Louise) by The Daily Beast turned to the Blade Runner sequel.

“Funny enough, I started my first meetings on the Blade Runner sequel last week. We have a very good take on it. And we’ll definitely be featuring a female protagonist.”

For the entire interview here’s the link.

As I posted yesterday Blade Runner writer Hampton Fancher is in talks to work on the sequel.

As for strong women – who could forget Daryl Hannah as Pris and Joanna Cassidy as Zhora. While not as kick ass as Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley in Alien, these actresses were true femme fatales. These beautiful replicants even their feminity and seduction skills as weapons.

“Blade Runner” Writer Back for Ridley Scott’s Sequel

Blade Runner The Final Cut movie poster image courtesy Amazon.com

“If you could see what I’ve seen with your eyes,” is just one of the many quotes from Rutger Hauer as the doomed Roy Batty in Blade Runner. I love that movie. I’ve seen every version. I own the collector’s edition case. I’ve studied it over and over.

Ridley Scott is returning to the world of the other science fiction classic he created. Hampton Fancher is in talks to create an idea for a sequel to the classic film for Scott and Alcon Entertainment according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The story goes on to say that the sequel is set “some years after the first film concluded” according to Alcon. I wonder which ending of the first film Scott will use to springboard into the future. I’m sure The Final Cut version.

Boom Studios produces a gorgeous graphic novel series based on the original Phillip K. Dick story on which Blade Runner is based: Do Androids Dream of Electronic Sheep?

Here’s a link to the 5 disc blu ray version and here’s a link to the graphic novel if you’re interested. And if you want to know the fascinating behind the scenes story of how this film was made I recommend Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner.

Can you tell I’m a little excited about this? I think I’m more thrilled Scott’s return to the Alien mythos in Prometheus but I can’t wait to see how he expands the world of Blade Runner.

“Prometheus” Creature is “Every Woman’s Nightmare”

Secrets of Prometheus are unfolding like those slick eggs peeling away in Alien. The creature in the new film takes on four different forms as it grows and changes “organically” in what actress Noomi Rapace calls “every woman’s nightmare” according to an upcoming story in The Hollywood Reporter.

Do you remember seeing the international trailer? It featured a creature that reminded me of one of those things inside the belly of the monster in the asteroid on The Empire Strikes Back but a lot nastier.  What kind of cargo is that “Space Jockey” carrying?

Viral Video “Prometheus” Be Careful What You Ask For Doctor

Here’s a new viral video for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. First came the Ted talk 2023 video with Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland then a creepy faux commercial for Michael Fassbender’s android David. Noomi Rapace as Dr. Elizabeth Shaw stars in the latest video Quiet Eye found on the Verizon FIOS facebook page. In the video Dr. Shaw is pleading her case to Peter Weyland.

Did you see the creep analyzing and the Yutani logo? It seems like in Prometheus Weyland and Yutani are separate companies.

“Prometheus” First Clip

The first clip for Prometheus has arrived online. The scene features the impressive title ship as it lands on the planet. Logan Marshall Green’s character delivers an ominous line as he points out the landing area that looks too perfectly draw out to be a natural valley.

The Prometheus official movie site reveals 6 new photos. This one above shows Michael Fassbender at the android David in the Space Jockey’s chair looking at a star map…to Earth?

And this new featurette has the stars and Ridley Scott discussing the theme of humanity’s origin and perhaps giving away a little more of the plot. Take a look:

Thanks to MTV. And I’m excited to see my Entertainment Weekly featuring new phots of the cast.

New “Prometheus” TV Spot Teases Weyland’s Secret Agenda

You can’t trust any of those ——- from Weyland! A new TV spot for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus in on YouTube. Charlize Theron may be fairy tale evil in Snow White and the Huntsman but you can see the corporate evil seething under the surface of her character, Meredith Vickers. Michael Fassbender may be playing the android but there’s something very inhuman about Theron’s corporate officer.

Prometheus takes flight June 8.

The Alien Landscape of “Prometheus” in Scotland

Prometheus courtesy 20th Century Fox

You don’t have to board Prometheus to visit the alien landscape in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi epic. The director filmed on the Isle of Sky in Scotland. I’m a travel buff along with being a geek. Lord of the Rings was part of my inspiration to visit New Zealand.

VisitScotland is hoping the film will inspire movie fans to experience the Isle of Sky according to the Daily Mail. Chairman Mike Cantlay said:  ‘As thousands of holidaymakers discover every year, Skye possesses an ethereal, out-of-this-world quality, so it is no surprise that Ridley Scott chose the island to shoot scenes for Prometheus.

Here’s the trailer that shows the rocky landscape of the Isle of Sky seen in Prometheus.

The new James Bond film Skyfall is filming in Scotland at Duntrune Castle. The 007 film title refers to Skyfall Lodge.
