OK

HERE IT COMES

Joss Whedon always kills the ones we love and we love him for it. Death has meaning, impact and drama in Buffy, Serenity, Angel, and The Avengers. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes needed someone to avenge. Agent Phil Coulson had to die. But Whedon tells io9 it wasn’t completely on him this time.

In our first meeting Kevin Feige said, this is what we’re gonna do and I said, “Oh but you have to go out there and tell everybody that it was your idea because this is going to get me so much s—. Because they are all going to be like, “Oh he did it again!” It was stipulated from the beginning, and I completely agree that it was the right thing to do, and so did Clark. Who said in the early days, when I was busy apologizing for it, “In a movie like this, with what’s going on if there isn’t some toll, it’s just irresponsible story telling.”

This Geek’s Take: It never occured to me that Agent Coulson would die because I was so caught up in the movie. Phil, you will be missed. I’m glad Coulson will live on in the Marvel comic universe.

Avengers Movie Characters Move to Comics!

Movie fans know Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) as SHIELD operatives from previous Marvel films and the upcoming Avengers movie.

Now Fury (Jr) and Coulson are in the Marvel Universe after Battle Scars #5 and now a terrorist threat will send the SHIELD agents into action in Scarlet Spider #5 on May 9th.

“There’s a dirty nuke loose in Houston, and everybody from the Houston PD, the F.B.I., S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers get pulled in,” Battle Scars and Scarlet Spider writer Christopher Yost tells Marvel.com. “Fury and Coulson are the face of S.H.I.E.L.D. in this case, and Coulson actually runs point with Iron Man, Scarlet Spider’s the one on the ground.”

“In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Coulson somewhat became the face of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” adds Yost. “So when S.H.I.E.L.D. shows up in the comics, Fury and Coulson can now serve that function.

“Fury’s not the director, not the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.—he’s an agent. He and Coulson aren’t going to be sitting in meetings; they’re going to be out there on big S.H.I.E.L.D. adventures.”

How many fans would love the chance to talk with Joss Whedon? I would probably be speechless or so hard trying to be cool – I’d blow all my questions.

Marvel is giving you the rare opportunity to chat (via Twitter) with the fan favorite creator and two stars of The Avengers.

Loki’s Army in The Avengers? Agent Coulson Speaks

In Marvel Comics history Loki’s scheming causes the Avengers to assemble. Loki is the main villain behind the big screen assembling of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes but who has his back against combined forces of Thor, Iron Man, Captain America and SHIELD?

Clark Gregg plays SHIELD Agent Coulson in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor and The Avengers. Comic Book Movie has an exclusive with the actor.

When asked if fans will recognize Loki’s army, Gregg responded, “Well I guess that will depend on the fan and what they’ve read and what they’ve seen,” said Gregg. Jokingly, he went on to say, “I mean if they’re fans of Land of the Lost then they won’t be surprised to see Loki show up with a bunch of Sleestaks. I think everyone is going to be surprised to see Loki get out of a Romulan ship is all I’m going to say.”

The answer could get minds warping with all kinds of speculation. It certainly could add fuel to the fire that the Skrulls are allied with Loki. The Skrull are reptilian aliens with shapeshifting powers.

In Marvel history, when Kree-Skrull War threatened Earth the Avengers held the line. In the epic Secret Invasion – the Skrulls infiltrated every super hero team with shapeshifters in their plot to conquer our planet.

Being the God of Mischief, Loki is likely to be the instigator of a conflict between Earth and the Skrulls – if that turns out to be the case.

Special note: The Tesseract was a device from Asgardian myth sought after by the Red Skull in the Captain America movie. This device is a variation (different name though) of the Cosmic Cube. In Marvel history, it was theorized that the Skrulls created one of the Cosmic Cubes.
