A Superman milestone will come with a major change in super fashion. Look, up in the sky – the red trunks are back!
The comic book that gave us The Man of Steel reaches its 1,000th issue. DC Comics is going all-out to celebrate with a must have for comic book fans.
ACTION COMICS #1000 is the longest continually published comic book of its kind in history. This is the book that introduced Superman and launched the superhero genre. DC Comics just revealed the cover to the landmark issue drawn by Jim Lee. The iconic hero is sporting a new but familiar costume taking inspiration from classic and modern elements. Take a look – the red trunks are back! Kal-El’s uniform has been all blue pants for several years and in recent films.
ACTION COMICS #1000 features stories from an all-star roster of creators including SUPERMAN film director Richard Donner, Geoff Johns, Superman comic team team Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason, Dan Jurgens, Brad Meltzer, Louise Simonson, Jerry Ordway, Tom King, Scott Snyder and more. Brian Michael Bendis is writing his first DC story to appear in the massive issue.
Along with the retro design changes, the issue will feature a real blast from the past. DC veteran writer Marv Wolfman will script a story based on never-before-seen, unpublished art by legendary artist Curt Swan, whose style many consider the definitive look for Superman in the Golden and Silver Ages of comics.
Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Without these guys there wouldn’t be a Man of Steel or maybe even a superhero genre.
ACTION COMICS #1000 arrives April 18th.
