SUPERMAN’S MULTIVERSAL MYSTERY

Superman #14 courtesy DC Comics

If you thought there the Superman family expanded in a big way with DC Rebirth then you may be reeling from the big revelation in Superman #14.

Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason and Ivan Reis gave the flagship book a Multiversal twist with new villains and the return of another Superman.

If you’re a fan of Grant Morrison’s The Multiversity then you definitely need to devour the new Superman arc.

The Multiversity debuted in 2014. Years-in-the-making, this series mapped out the DC Multiverse, world by world. The Multiverse has been mentioned but fans have not seen the heroes of that event since the finale…until now.

Before we continue here’s a SPOILER ALERT!

If you have not read Superman #14 yet stop reading now.

Seriously.

OK.

Here it comes:
The Man of Steel from Superman: Red Son stood in Clark Kent’s path in this week’s issue. The Russian Superman escaped a villain named Prophecy and his legion of Gatherers. The creatures have a “Lyst” and are hunting Supermen across the Multiverse for “processing.”

The current Man of Steel teams up with his Russian Earth-30 counterpart to stand against the Gatherers then more heroes join the action.

This team hasn’t been around since The Multiversity:

But that’s just the start of the excitement. Prophecy’s actions have caused waves throughout the very fabric of the Multiverse, as we learn when a team of heroes shockingly arrive on the scene. A team that hasn’t been seen since The Multiversity:

Calvin Ellis, the Superman of Earth-23 leads the Justice League Incarnate including Mary Marvel of Earth 5, Aquawoman of Earth II, Red Racer of Earth 36, Green Lantern of Earth 20 and Machinehead of Earth 8.

Ellis tells the Supermen that Prophecy’s actions are disrupting the fabric of the Multiverse and his Gatherers are seizing Supermen from across the Multiverse.

Kal-El isn’t on Prophecy’s list. Who is?

Kenan Kong, the New Super-Man of China.

Kenan makes his first appearance in the flagship Superman title only to be attacked by Gatherers. He’s swallowed up by a black goo. Is he ready for “processing?”

We later see a prison of captive Supermen and the return of Captain Carrot. The hero is seized from his cell and reduced into a baby?

Are Lex Luthor or Jon Kent targets of the Gatherers next?

Does Prophecy have a role in the bigger DC Rebirth conspiracy involving the Watchmen?

The Multiversal Mystery continues in Superman #15 arrives on January 18th.
