What you didn’t know about Clark Kent before he became the Man of Steel.

Superman is fighting for his life after losing his powers in his main DC Comics books but a new limited series looks at the young man before he became an icon.

Superman: American Alien #1 arrives this week by Hollywood screenwriter and Eisner-nominee Max Landis (Chronicle).

How do you raise a super-powered child and keep his alien abilities a secret?

It’s the story of what might be the most famous parents in comic book history.

This seven part collection of stories from the life of Clark Kent “ranging from heartwarming and simple to gritty and two-fisted and even humorous, each story captures a pivotal moment in Clark’s development into the archetypical hero he’s become.”

In this first issue, artist Nick Dragotta (East of West) illustrates the story of Jonathan and Martha Kent as they struggle to deal with a 12-year-old son enjoying his new ability—he’s been floating up into the air, sometimes hundreds of feet.

As the series continues Landis will be joined by fan-favorite artists JOCK, Tommy Lee Edwards, Joelle Jones, Jae Lee, Francis Manapul and Jonathan Case providing interior art with Ryan Sook creating covers.

Superman: American Alien #1 arrives Wednesday.
