Tony Stark soars to San Francisco in silver armor and a new agenda in Superior Iron Man #1 this week.
Is this “Superior” Tony Stark is not the fan-favorite Avenger you know and love or has Tony become an “Inverted” Iron Man.
The brand new series picks up after events in AXIS #4 in which Stark reveals his Extremis app for the citizens of his home.
Marvel newcomers Tom Taylor and Yildiray Cinar take on the iconic Avenger following Kieron Gillen’s huge Iron Man run.
Iron Man’s superior changes come as Marvel shakes up it’s major Avengers icons with a new Thor, Goddess of Thunder and Falcon becoming the Captain America. The dramatic changes come in the aftermath of Scarlet Witch and Doctor’s Inversion spell Red Skull in AXIS.
“…the old Tony is back. Arrogant. Cunning. Witty. Superficial. Completely self-obsessed. Superior,” Taylor told Marvel.com.
“After all the hits he’s taken recently, he’s building something new and golden in San Francisco. He’s taking Extremis to the citizens and he’s building a Utopia for the people and for a new Stark Industries.”
In AXIS #4 Tony made Extremis available via app. The story picks up this week as Stark continues his high-tech makeover in San Francisco.
“This is a Tony we haven’t seen since before that fateful heart injury that turned him into one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,” Senior Editor Mark Paniccia told Marvel.com. “The smug, over-confident quintessential capitalist is back…and readers are going to get a real kick out of it. Even the most loyal Iron Man fans will find this a guilty pleasure.”
The Man Without Fear is calling San Francisco home too.
Matt Murdock is immediately suspicious of Stark’s Extremis offer. The stage is set for a superhero showdown between Iron Man and Daredevil.
The big question for Stark fans is this new Iron Man just a return to the old Tony or has this hero been “inverted” and what’s he capable of in order to create his vision of Utopia?
Superior Iron Man #1 arrives Wednesday.
