One of the many Easter Eggs in Suicide Squad is tied into a big mystery set up in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
It could be just one stop on a trail of tragedy and vengeance in the DC Comics Movie Universe.
In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Bruce Wayne keeps a statue of Robin in the Batcave.
The symbol of his sidekick is defaced with spray paint:
“Ha Ha joke’s on your Batman!”
The implication is a “Robin” was killed in this past of this movie universe.
In the comic storyline Death of the Family, the second Robin/Jason Todd was murdered by the Joker.
Is the guilty party revealed in Suicide Squad?
Before we continue here’s a SPOILER ALERT!
If you have not seen Suicide Squad stop reading now.
Seriously.
OK.
Here it comes:
As the film opens Amanda Waller is making her pitch for Task Force X. Harley Quinn’s dossier reveals she was partly responsible for Robin’s death. The opening scene introduces members of Waller’s Task Force X each with a list of dangerous traits and crimes in graphics on screen. Quinn’s rap sheet includes the accomplice in the murder of Robin.
Did Harley confess?
Is she telling the truth?
Is Harley covering for “Mister J” and why wouldn’t the Clown Prince of Crime want someone else to take credit for a crime that haunts his arch rival?
In comics canon Harley was even created when Death of the Family hit comic stores. And because nobody stays dead in comics, Jason Todd was resurrected to become the anti-hero known as Red Hood.
This theory sets up a rematch between the Dark Knight (Ben Affleck) and the Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley (Margot Robbie) in a Batman standalone film over the death of Robin.
In the comics Harley breaks up with Joker and becomes her own anti-hero with almost as many books as Batman.
Suicide Squad is in theaters now.
The first issues of a new Suicide Squad and Harley Quinn comics are in comic shops now.
