Love can cut like a knife.
Just ask Peter Quill as his interstellar romance with Kitty Pryde gets caught up in Secret Wars and he encounters a very different and dangerous Kitty.
Universes are destroyed and only Battleworld remains as Quill meets up with a the Age of Apocalypse Shadowcat in Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde by Sam Humphries (Legendary Star-Lord) and Alti Firmansyah.
We hoped the Age of Apocalypse Kitty Pryde would make a comeback in Battleworld but never expected this.
“I can tell you this is an action romantic comedy,” Humphries told Marvel.com “It is the emotional and spiritual continuation of the Great Peter Quill/Kitty Pryde Romance that has been developing in Legendary Star-Lord. The legion of #Starkat fans online have been asking me non-stop what’s going to happen to their relationship during Secret Wars. Well, this is part of the answer—but I know it only raises more questions. It’s going to be funny, and fun—but also heartbreaking, and thrilling.”
The writer can’t reveal too much since this comes out of the events of The Black Vortex crossover between Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men. A bigger mystery is why Shadowcat is out of her Battleworld realm.
“Well, to reveal that would reveal too much about what Age of Apocalypse Kitty is doing outside her home kingdom,” Humphries said. “But I will say it involves a fan favorite mutant—or maybe just a version of a fan favorite mutant. And this threat cuts to the core of what Battleworld is—and what it isn’t.”
In the Age of Apocalypse, this darker, more ruthless Kitty was trained by that world’s Weapon X to be a ghost assassin and later married Colossus and they were co-trainers for the Generation X kids.
The Black Vortex continues in the pages of Guardians of the Galaxy, Legendary Star-Lord, Cyclops, All-New X-Men, Captain Marvel, Nova and wraps up in The Black Vortex: Omega by Humphries.
Secret Wars #1 hits in May.
