Spider-Man will swing back to Marvel as part of an agreement with Sony. The rebooted Spidey will appear in a Marvel movie before a new Spider-Man movie from Sony/Marvel in 2017.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed a teenage Peter Parker in high school will be the star but don’t expect to see another origin story.

Now that we know who (Peter Parker) and when (high school) what else can fans expect from the rebooted cinema Spidey?

Love? Fans may automatically assume since Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) was a huge part of the recent Andrew Garfield films, it’s time for Mary Jane Watson to return to the big screen. To borrow a line from MJ, “Face it Tiger,” we’ve already seen Gwen and MJ so why not choose another of Parker’s loves?

Why not pick Parker’s first crush, Liz Allan? This high school crush didn’t end up turning in into true love. Liz was the gorgeous, blonde, popular girlfriend of football star and Parker’s jock tormentor Flash Thompson. Liz actually joined in the in-crowd’s teasing of Parker. Liz changed her mind when she learned Peter was the costumed hero.

Betty Brant was actually Peter’s first love. Brant was J. Jonah Jameson’s secretary and “Girl Friday” at the Daily Bugle. I can’t imagine a relationship between a high school kid and an adult career woman but what if they both started out as interns at the Bugle?

Let Parker get his heart battered a little before hitting “the Jackpot” and falling for MJ.

Enemies:

No More Osborns. I loved Willem Dafoe and James Franco in the Sam Raimi trilogy. I was intrigued by Osborn as a behind the scenes villain in the Marc Webb duo and Dane DeHaan was super creepy but enough Osborns and Goblins.

Chameleon was the first official villain appearing in Amazing Spider-Man #1. This former KGB operative turned method actor and master of disguise impersonated Spidey in his first story arc. While Chameleon may not seem like a likely main villain, Marvel could change his origin from KGB to Hydra to connect with the main cinematic universe. What’s most appealing about Chameleon is his half-brother, Kraven the Hunter, a big game hunter obsessed with making the ultimate urban kill: Spidey.

Gang War! I keep thinking of the current Spider-Man: Spiral arc by legendary writer Gerry Conway. Spidey has a ton of colorful super villains but let’s not forget the ruthless crime lords like Silvermane, Hammerhead and Kingpin, now played by Vincent D’Onofrio on the Marvel/Netflix Daredevil series.

Keep Sally Field as Aunt May, bring back J.K. Simmons are J. Jonah Jameson – tow outstanding actors from both previous versions.
