Will a Black Cat be the lucky leading lady to star in her own super powered film or will a Spider-Woman swing into the lead?

Following up on the news Sony is planning a female hero starring film from the Spider-Man franchise.

Here are some of the women who might spinoff from the Spider-Verse:

Black Cat (Felicia Hardy) has the longest history in the Spider-Man universe in her transformation from career criminal to anti-heroine makes for a great storyline. In Amazing Spider-Man #3, Black Cat was back on the dark side and out for revenge against Spidey!

Felicia (Felicity Jones) was introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as an executive assistant to a ruthless Oscorp executive but could that be just a cover for the master thief?

Our #1 hands down pick!

Spider-Girl is the star of a longest running Marvel series starring a female lead. May “May Day” Parker is the daughter of Peter and Mary Jane Parker from an alternate future. Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy) expressed interest in playing her in a recent interview.  It all depends on Sony’s long-term game plan. By introducing May Day, Sony could launch a whole future storyline (like the X-Men franchise) with May visiting the past to make sure her dad and mom stay together.

Spider-Woman (which one you ask!)

Jessica Drew seems like she should be a Marvel Studios character with her ties to the Avengers, Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D. Personally, I’d love to see Jessica star with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. There was also Julia Carpenter who later became known as Arachne and the second Madame Webb, Mattie Franklin and Arana, the Spider-Girl also were Spider-Women but Jessica is the most famous.

Jessica is playing a major role in the Spider-Verse epic that that will spin into a brand new solo series coming this Fall.

Silk (above on the over) was just introduced into comics. She was bitten by the same radioactive spider that transformed Peter Parker. Where has she been all this time? The story is just unfolding in Amazing Spider-Man and soon in Spider-Woman.

Silver Sable is the wild card! Silver Sablinova is a mercenary for hire, CEO of Silver Sable International and leader of the Wild Pack. She has no superpowers but trained in several fighting techniques, martial arts and is a weapons expert. Silver’s methods have often brought her into conflict with costumed heroes and she’s hired several Spidey foes as her mercs.

Firestar Angelica Jones is a mutant so you think she’s automatically X-Men. Angelica was created on the animated series Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. Spider-Man, Firestar and Iceman went to school and fought bad guys together Saturday mornings. Angelica would later join the X-Men. Peter, Bobby and Angelica recently reunited in the pages of Amazing X-Men.

Jessica, May Day, Silver or Angelica? My hopes are for Felicia! Stay tuned to see which woman from Spidey’s world rises to cinema stardom!
