Spider-Man 2099 comes out slinging in his own solo series this week. Peter David (All-New X-Factor) created Miguel O’Hara back in the 1990’s as part of Marvel’s 2099 line (which included X-Men, Punisher and Doom 2099.)

In the pages of Superior Spider-Man – O’Hara landed in our present day last year. Now Miguel i is stranded in the past but determined to fix the future. David is spinning new stories of the future Spidey with artist Will Sliney (Fearless Defenders) with covers by Simone Bianchi.

Acclaimed writer Peter David explains why he reunited with the breakout hero he created nearly two decades ago:

“I try not to “want” to return to characters I don’t own because, well, I don’t own them. I could burn up a lot of energy waxing nostalgic for my days on Spidey or Hulk or whomever, so I’ve learned to simply be ready for any offer at any time.

When Ellie [Pyle, my editor] called and offered me SPIDER-MAN 2099, I was absolutely delighted because I’d been reading about Marvel’s plans for him from the outside and thinking, “That sounds cool,” but after years of practice I had restrained from wistfully wishing that I was going to be brought on board. People kept asking me if I was part of it and I kept very honestly saying, “I haven’t heard anything about it.” So I was thrilled the day that changed and Ellie called. That was a good day,” David told Marvel.com.

In the first arc, Miguel goes undercover at the small company that will become Alchemax – the evil mega corporation where he gained his powers in the year 2099.

Can O’Hara change the future and reshape his destiny?

Will a new enemy from the timesteam make this future Spider-Man extinct before he can finish his mission?

Spider-Man 2099 #1 arrives Wednesday.
