Marvel already declared an iconic hero will die leading to Civil War II.
The publisher shared the ominous cover to Captain America: Sam Wilson #10 where the new Cap is called on to honor a fallen hero.
Captain Marvel and Iron Man will lead opposing forces over the fate of a new Inhuman with the power to see the future. Inhuman Ulysses appeared before a deadly attack by Thanos (in the Free Comic Book Day issue) that may have claimed a beloved Avenger.
Writer Nick Spencer reveals why Sam is asked to lead the ceremony for this casualty of war:
“Well, that story is really about – in addition to paying tribute to a fallen hero – is Sam revealing what the role of Captain America entails. It’s not just another super hero gig. There are situations, happenings, where folks look to somebody who carries that shield. In large part it’s astory about that. It’s got Sam confronting some parts of the job that he hadn’t needed to as much, earlier on. ” Spencer told Marvel.com.
Spencer confirmed Wilson will choose a side early on and it’s “not a tough decision for Sam.”
Who is in the coffin?
Before we share the most prevailing theory here’s a SPOILER ALERT!
If you have not read the Civil War II FCBD issue stop reading now.
Seriously.
OK.
Here it comes.
In the attack by Thanos, War Machine launched a missile that struck She-Hulk in the chest by accident. It looked like she survived. The Mad God struck Jim Rhodes and we last saw his head cradled in the arms of Carol Danvers.
Rhodey and Carol are in a relationship so losing Jim would make Carol want to seize control of Ulysses’s power to prevent crime, terrorism and deaths of innocents in the future.
Colonel Jim Rhodes would definitely deserve a military funeral as seen on the cover.
Wouldn’t Rhodey’s death make Tony agree with Carol’s position or is a final moment between the two best friends we have not seen yet that will shape Iron Man’s view?
Captain America: Sam Wilson #10 arrives June 22.
