A Happy Saint Patrick’s Day Salute to the beloved, late X-Man Banshee.

Sean Cassidy was recruited by Professor Xavier to join his All-New, All-Different X-Men. The Irish mutant was born with a “sonic scream” he could manipulate into many abilities including flight. Sean’s code-name was after the ghost of Irish legends infamous for their powerful cry.

You can see Sean in his green and yellow uniform unleashing the sonic scream on the cover of Uncanny X-Men #110.

Banshee is a creation of the legendary Roy Thomas and Werner Roth as an adversary for the original X-Men but would eventually join the team. Banshee would later become a teacher and mentor to the young mutants of Generation X. Sean was killed by Vulcan.

The legendary Banshee name lives on in Theresa Rourke Cassidy. Theresa went by the code-name Siryn but would take on her late father’s code-name as a member of X-Factor.

Here’s Teresa with the same red hair as her dear old dad on the cover of X-Factor: The Longest Night.

Caleb Landry Jones played the young Banshee in X-Men: First Class but without the Irish background and accent.

Sean was recently resurrected by the Apocalypse Twins in Uncanny Avengers. It’s been dark times for Sean in later life, death and afterlife but many fans of the Chris Claremont/Dave Cockrum era remember the spirited Irish hero ready to go into action with this teammates and enjoy a pipe and ale with Logan after the battle was on.

Here’s to two generations of Banshees on Saint Patrick’s Day.
