Marvel is betting big on Rocket Raccoon. Bradley Cooper is the voice of the gun-blasting animal in Guardians of the Galaxy this August.
The breakout star of the Guardians comic book will get his own solo series by Skottie Young, best known for writing and drawing Oz series and his signature variant covers.
“I like that he’s got a little of that Deadpool funk to him. We’ve got a raccoon with a big gun. I think we want to make sure he shoots it some.” Young told Marvel.com.
“I figure that a guy like Rocket, with his attitude, has swindled his way over many planets and charmed many ladies,” Young says of Rocket’s past coming back to haunt him.
“He’s racked up a militia of ex-girlfriends I’m dubbing the Exterminators. They’re all fed up and they’ve decided it’s time they dish out some payback on his furry little tail.”
Rocket and Groot are perhaps the closest members of the team and Young says Groot will appear in the book.
Rocket Raccoon #1 arrives in July.
