The CW is recruiting a new DC Comics icon to join new series The Flash. Robbie Amell (The Tomorrow People) will Ronnie Raymond (aka Firestorm) according to TV Guide.
Amell is the cousin of Arrow star Stephen Amell. Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) guest starred on Arrow before fast tracking into his own series. The report says Ronnie will be a STAR labs maintenance worker and integral to the accident that turns Barry into The Flash.
“Geoff Johns, Andrew Kreisberg and myself designed the pilot and series to include Ronnie (aka Firestorm) — and to actually have someone with Robbie’s talent playing the role is beyond exciting,” executive producer Greg Berlanti said in a statement. “We can’t wait for viewers and fans of the character to check it out.”
“I’m so excited to join forces with Greg Berlanti and The CW again on The Flash. Being brought into the DC Universe is a dream, I can’t wait to get started!” added Amell.
Amell will first appear in the third episode.
Firestorm was created by Gerry Conway and Al Milgrom. Conway would add Firestorm to the Justice League of America during his run on the title.
In comics Ronnie was fused with scientist Martin Stein into a dual identity, Firestorm, after a nuclear accident.
This is big week for DC fans. Monday it was announced Brandon Routh will join Arrow as Ray Palmer aka The Atom.
