Marvel announced the third and final act of a trilogy chronicling the death and resurrection of the X-Man Logan/James Howlett.
After DEATH OF WOLVERINE and HUNT FOR WOLVERINE – RETURN OF WOLVERINE marks a new beginning for the X-Man.
DEATH OF WOLVERINE creative team Charles Soule and Steve McNiven will reunite for the third act starting September 19th.
Logan died in a 2014 story after his mutant healing factor failed him. He was entombed in adamantium – or so we thought.
After Logan’s brief appearance in the MARVEL LEGACY one-shot, the HUNT FOR WOLVERINE one-shot revealed what happened to Logan’s corpse. (No spoilers here.)
The HUNT continues as heroes and villains search the globe for Logan’s body after is was revealed to be missing. Four teams are trying to find answers in HUNT FOR WOLVERINE limited series: ADAMANTIUM AGENDA, CLAWS OF A KILLER, MYSTERY IN MADRIPOOR and WEAPON LOST.
The conclusion of this hunt “leaves Wolverine changed forever.”
“Wolverine’s body has been missing. The entire Marvel Universe has been looking for him, because he’s a very important part of the Super Hero puzzle. And at long last, he will be found,” Soule told Marvel.com.
“I thought this was a real opportunity to do things that would make him feel new and fresh in a way; if you come back from the dead, it should mean something. One of the outwardly physical manifestations of that is that now, from time to time, his claws—once they’re popped—they can heat up. They can get really hot.”
RETURN OF WOLVERINE #1 – the first of a five part story – arrives September 19th.
