At C2E2 Marvel revealed The Last Will and Testament of Charles Xavier will be revealed as part of this summer’s Original Sin event. The Watcher’s murder will expose long hidden secrets rocking every corner and team of the Marvel Universe.
The schism between the X-Men pushed the Children of the Atom apart after the Professor’s murder at the hands of a Phoenix-possessed Cyclops in Avengers vs. X-Men. Now Xavier’s last will and testament will test his students even more. The story will appear in Uncanny X-Men #23 and #24 by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Chris Bachalo and Kris Anka.
In this new Marvel.com interview Bendis explains how the will will affect Cyclops and his rebel school staff ( including Emma Frost, Magik.)
“When I got the job to take over the X-Men, I knew I was coming on the heels of Xavier’s murder [in Avengers Vs. X-Men]. I knew why it was happening, but I also knew that Xavier’s legacy would be the point of both of my books. I wrote down a bunch of ideas and one of them was “Xavier’s will.” Once Original Sin became a reality, I knew that this story was the story to tell—I just didn’t know how big it was going to get.”
What did the world’s most powerful telepath leave behind for his students?
“The will is literally a list of things that Xavier needs to have taken care of in the event of his death. Some things the students will be familiar with and other things they will not be.”
Battle of the Atom splintered the X-Men even more and Bendis isn’t finished yet with the Will”
“What the storyline promises is such a shakeup with such bombs being dropped all over the place, that the entire franchise will be affected—and it’s hard to imagine it ever being able to go back to the way things were.”
Cyclops has formed a new Xavier School as part of his mutant revolution. Scott is currently at war with S.H.I.E.L.D. What did the Professor leave his prize student and heir-apparent?
“Well, the real question is what did Xavier leave for Scott? Did Xavier imagine a world where his prize student would be at least partially responsible for his death? I will say that the storyline is a big turn in the Scott Summers story.”
Uncanny X-Men #23 hits in July.
The X-Men C2E2 panel is tomorrow.
