Paul Rudd will star in Marvel’s Ant-Man for director Edgar Wright. A big name for a scientist who can shrink down to become Marvel’s smallest hero.
“When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star,” said Marvel’s Kevin Feige. “We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we’d ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn’t be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life.”
The star is now starring in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Having an actor with such a comedy background is a hint of the tone of the upcoming adventure. If you have doubts just remember the criticism when Robert Downey Jr. was cast as Tony Stark/Iron Man.
Here’s what you need to know about Ant-Man:
Henry “Hank” Pym is a founding Avenger. The scientist developed “Pym particles” which enable him to shrink and grow in size. Pym was able to communicate with insects using a special helmet he also invented. Pym’s on-again, off-again and onetime wife is Janet Van Dyne a.k.a.. Wasp. Jan is a founding Avenger who can shrink to a small size with wings and armed with a stinger. Pym would later assume the super hero code names: Goliath, Giant-Man and the infamous Yellowjacket.
Scott Lang and Eric O’Grady also worn the Ant-Man helmet but Pym remains a fan-favorite hero now leading Avengers. A.I. a team of cybernetic heroes.
