Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold will reunite for a follow-up to The Wolverine rumored to based on Old Man Logan.
Apparently Professor Xavier will appear in what will be Jackman’s finale film appearance as the fan-favorite X-Man.
Sir Patrick Stewart told Collider about his involvement while promoting Blunt Talk:
“I think what you say is true. There is a project in development. I understand that Professor Xavier will be making more than an appearance, however, and that intrigues me.”
As for the Wolverine’s final film based on Old Man Logan, Stewart gave a comic response:
“And the idea of an old Wolverine – I’m really looking forward to Hugh Jackman getting old. You know, damn him. He looks so great! So I’m hoping to see him covered in prosthetics, you know? And then he’ll make me look better if that’s the case.”
Old Man Logan was a Wolverine arc by Mark Millar set in a future where super villains conquered the Marvel Universe. Logan was living a quiet reclusive life with a wife and kids. Hawkeye offers Logan a job that would help take care of his family. The X-Man and Avenger go on a road trip adventure that leads to the Wolverine once again being “the best at what he does.”
Producers will have to make changes from comics canon since Hawkeye is an Avenger controlled by Marvel. Fox only has movie rights to X-Men characters.
While the original Wolverine is dead in the comics, Old Man Logan is back in a Secret Wars tie-in book, then when Marvel relaunches this Fall, Old Man Logan will have a new solo book and co-star in Extraordinary X-Men – both written by Jeff Lemire.
