GERARD WAY Launches DC YOUNG ANIMAL Imprint

Gerard Way was a surprise guest at the DC All Access panel at Emerald City Comicon in Seattle.

The Eisner Award-winning writer of The Umbrella Academy and former vocalist and co-founder of the alternative rock band My Chemical Romance announced he will be curating DC’s Young Animal. This will be a new mature reader pop-up imprint of DC Comics that will consist of four books under his creative direction.

The flagship title for this monthly lineup is Doom Patrol, written by Way, which will set the tone for the other titles in the series, described by Way as “comics for dangerous humans.”

Here’s the lineup:

DOOM PATROL – This September, in the spirit of Grant Morrison’s legendary run on the series, along with other classic incarnations of the characters, writer Gerard Way and artist Nick Derington will put their unique stamp on the world’s strangest heroes taking on the universe’s strangest villains. DC COMICS ALL-ACCESS ECCC Two Big Reveals

A rock star surprise guest announced a new imprint as DC Entertainment kicked off its stellar lineup of Emerald City Comicon (ECCC) panels with two big announcements and a guy from the audience named Jim (Lee) is chosen to compete in a live art competition!

Co-Publisher Dan DiDio lead the DC Entertainment panel with creators with Emanuela Lupachino, Amy Chu, Marguerite Bennett, Klaus Janson, Chad Hardin, Robert Venditti, and Steve Orlando talking about their current and upcoming Rebirth titles. CAPTAIN AMERICA CIVIL WAR The Past Is Prologue Trailer

Marvel revealed a new trailer for Captain America: Civil War showing how it’s biggest heroes (Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark) evolved over the previous films.

The Past of Prologue includes footage from earlier movies combined with the upcoming showdown between Captain America and Iron Man. The latest trailer shows fans why the two heroes have been friends but have never really been on the same page.

When the world government crack down on superheroes, the differences between Steve and Tony quickly grow into a huge divide and eventually war.

CLOAK AND DAGGER Television Series

Cloak & Dagger are getting their own television series.

The heroes will star in Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger with a straight to series order on Freeform according to Variety. The network (formerly ABC Family) is owned by Disney and is more geared toward a younger audience.

The article describes the series as “a superhero love story.”

In the comics Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen were teen runaways from very different lives who met on the streets of New York City.

The runaways were experimented on by a scientist trying to create a new synthetic drug for a major crime lord. The experiments gave them incredible powers. Tyrone gained powers of teleportation, have a ghost-like intangibility and ability to access the “darkforce” dimension. To hide his new appearance he hid in a cloak. Tandy gained the ability to create “daggers” of light which could heal people and cure addictions. Their origins were later retconned to reveal Ty and Tandy were actually mutants like X-Men and the experiment triggered their mutant genes. Continue reading CLOAK AND DAGGER Television Series

Image Expo brought top creators make to announce new titles at Image Expo in Seattle including new books from Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, Rick Remender and Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher and Babs Tarr.

Image Comics and ReedPOP teamed up to bring Image Expo for the first time to kick-off the Emerald City Comicon (ECCC) in Seattle on at the Showbox Market theater.
