Emerald City Comicon‘s big announcement for The Walking Dead fans: Jon Bernthal and Laurie Holden are coming in 2012. The actors who play Shane and Andrea on the hit series will join previously announced guest, The Walking Dead creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman at Seattle’s pop culture event. Both actors will be appearing Saturday, March 31st and Sunday, April 1st.

Laurie Holden also appeared in one of my all time favorites series The X-Files as agent Marita Covarrubias.

New James Bond Film Like Goldfinger

Goldfinger is the gold standard for many James Bond fans. The third movie has the most iconic villain, henchman and Bond girl – Auric Goldfinger, Oddjob and Pussy Galore. Those three roles along with the thrilling pre-credit sequence, Shirley Bassey theme song and Q’s car – in a way set the blueprint for future Bond movies.

Producer Michael G. Wilson teases that 007’s next adventure Skyfall will have  “magical 1960’s feel.”

“Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig are taking it back to a 60’s feel – more Sean Connery. I think that’s what the fans wanted,” Wilson tells The People.

“There’s a magical Goldfinger feel surrounding it all,” Wilson added and also teased that he’s trying to get all six Bond actors together to mark the film’s release and the franchise’s 50th Anniversary in 2012.

Thanks to NME for the Wilson interview. In an earlier post – Craig discussed why he wanted Sam Mendes as the director for Skyfall and the Bond films they both enjoyed.

Star Wars and Serenity United!

One of my most anticipated books for Free Comic Book Day 2012 is the  Star Wars/Serenity flipbook from Dark Horse Comics. The publisher will delight two fan universes with one comic book.

The Star Wars story will star Han Solo and Chewbacca. Serenity will feature Captain Mal Reynolds. New art and an interview with writer Zach Whedon (his brother Joss created the Firefly/Serenity universe) is on today’s Comic Book Resources.

You might think Han and Mal might find a lot on common – if they weren’t competing for the same smuggling job but Whedon doesn’t see Reynolds and Solo getting along.

“I think if they could get past their initial misgivings – Mal with Han’s shifty, smooth-talking nature. Han with Mal’s stoic solider routine – they’d have a lot to talk about. But I think it’s more likely they’d butt heads, possibly literally,” said Whedon.

Batman’s Villain Problem

I eagerly awaited The Dark Knight Rises IMAX prologue and new trailer. They looked stunning but the only critique was not being able to understand what Bane was saying.

Batfans are speaking out and Warner Brothers appears to be listening. According to Heat Vision of The Hollywood Reporter the studio is asking Christopher Nolan to alter the sound so audiences can better understand the main villain more clearly. The director responded that he will alter the sound slightly.

Bane wears a mask because he’s inhaling a drug that gives him super strength. In the comics the drug is called Venom.

Opinion – While I admit it was difficult to understand Bane in the prologue and trailer – there’s no question about the physical presence of Tom Hardy. Even in a mask, the actor exudes menace. Batfans- have faith in Nolan.

Mike Carey’s final X-Men story is here. After five a half years Carey is saying goodbye and setting up the future for Rogue, Gambit, Frenzy and Magneto in X-Men Legacy #260

Mike’s portrayal of Rogue is my favorite since Chris Claremont. You could sense the affection for the character in every panel.

Here’s a look back at Mike Carey’s X-Men Legacy. You will be missed.

Five More Bonds for Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig will become the longest running James Bond. Craig is filming his third now.  Producer Michael G. Wilson tells The Daily Mail he would love for Craig to star in five more 007 films bringing the current Bond up to eight movies making him the longest running Bond in history

“The fan love him and I don’t think there’s a better actor to play the part,” Wilson said.

Roger Moore holds the record now. Skyfall arrives in 2012.
