“Prometheus” Viral Video Starring the Company Man

The only thing more dangerous to humanity than the species in the Alien mythology is the evil company and its greedy corporate minions. A new viral video is online starring Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland, head of the shadowy company appearing in the Alien films. It appears on the TED website which hosts special corporate conferences. In this video Weyland is addressing thousands in the year 2023 before the events in Prometheus.

I think Guy Pearce is pretty mesmerizing in this. Weyland is part inspiring, part menacing as he addresses the conference. Weyland references artificial lifeforms. Michael Fassbender will be playing one in the film.

As Weyland shares the Greek legend of Prometheus, it’s eerie to think of how they mirror the events of Alien and of what is said to happen in the new film.

Thanks to Digital Spy for spying this online. This follows up the previous post in which director Ridley Scott revealed Pearce’s role and the connection between the films. By Editor

Justice League Vs Darkseid

DC’s greatest heroes united only to be blasted by Darkseid!  Can the team regroup to stop the ultimate villain? Geoff Johns and Jim Lee’s Justice League #6 arrives this week.

USA Today has an exclusive preview images of the climatic battle and interviews wth the creators.

“You really see Batman’s superpower is elevating the others around him,” said Johns. “Other than being a great tactician and a great fighter, he does know how to motivate people in the right way and crack into them like a safe.”

“Every character steps up and does something important in taking down Darkseid and saving the day. That’s the trick to any team book facing one ultimate bad guy is how do you get every character doing something meaningful, and the story delivers on that,” adds Lee.

This issue has a backup story setting the stage for the next arc in issue 7 and brings the Justice League 5 years forward into present day DC Comics New 52 continuity. Thanks to The Source.

Johns and Lee have succeeded beautifully at creating a new origin for these iconic characters. It’s been a thrill ride with action, humor and drama. I have to agree with Johns that Batman has this power to inspire. Bruce Wayne and Hal Jordan’s interaction has been a favorite part of this arc. I can’t wait for the big throwdown this week!

HERE IT COMES

Ridley Scott gives the connection between the two films and reveals the role played by Guy Pearce. It was revealed that Charlize Theron would play a corporate officer. Now we may know her boss.

“When the first Alien movie and Blade Runner were made, I thought that in the near future the world will be owned by large companies. This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in Blade Runner, and Weyland-Yutani in Alien. They sent the Nostromo spaceship,” Scott said.

“The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. That’s the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well,” Scott continued.

Any update on this exciting project is cool news. This could be an early clue about how Ridley Scott will approach a new film set in the Blade Runner world.

Cheering for John Carter the Underdog

Poster for Disney's John Carter

Disney’s John Carter will leap and soar on Mars but some critics are predicting a downfall. Can the big screen version of Edgar Rice Burroughs literaray hero recoup the $250 million dollar budget? The Earth man will be a underdog on a world of giant green warriors, big white apes and other huge aliens but one film producer uses the same analogy for their film.

“I think it’s kind of nice to be the underdog,” producer Lindsey Collins told CNN The Marquee “I’m trying to embrace it, to a certain degree, but I think it’s one of those things where this is the biggest movie coming out right now.”

Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins in Disney's John Carter

“If people really had crystal balls like that, they’d really make a lot of money,” Director Andrew Stanton said. “All I’ve ever been able to control is what the movie is itself. I came to that conclusion with ‘Toy Story’ 20 years ago. I don’t even pay attention to this outside stuff. Because if I did, I wouldn’t have made half the movies I made!”

For more of the interview here’s the link.

I’m a huge fan of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ hero and the director so I’m hoping this is the first of many cinematic adventures on Mars!

Earth 2 Batman Revealed

Batman of Earth 2 designed by Jim Lee courtesy DC

DC Comics The New 52 is doubling down with a Second Wave of new titles crashing this May and the debut of a parallel world. The Source revealed the Batman of Earth 2 designed by Jim Lee and a big teaser from Earth 2 editor Pat McCallum.

“Who will Batman kill to save his own daughter?” asks McCallum. “Right out of the gate that should tell you we’re dealing with a different kind of Dark Knight here. More ruthless, dangerous…the costume is familiar and yeah, there is a Wayne under the mask, but we’re looking at a man desperate to save the only family he has left. Earth 2 is about to become a very bad place to be a bad guy.”
