The Owls Devour Batman!

Batman #7 courtesy DC Comics

Batman #7 reaches a powerhouse conclusion to the Court of Owls story arc and sets the dramatic stage for the next phase of the war between Bat and Owl. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo really have made this title Batman beyond. This book so much more than a superhero book. It feels like a psychedelic offering from Vertigo.

After barely escaping with his sanity and life, Bruce unlocks the shadowy society’s most secret weapon and it shatters the foundation of everything he knows and we love about his greatest ally.

Greg Capullo and Jonathan Glapion deliver impact with every panel. From the horrific imagery of predator devouring prey to represent the real battle to the ragged Batman struggling to get to safety to the simple but effectively creepy owl masks, these artists making you sense every chill and shock Bruce encounters.

Batman has been to a literal hell and back. The Court of Owls is just getting started. One of Bruce’s strongest bonds has been shattered and now the Talons are coming to rip apart something else Bruce holds sacred.

X-Men & Avengers: The Last Team-Up

Uncanny X-Men #9 courtesy Marvel.com

The Extinction Team is back on track in Uncanny X-Men #9. Kieron Gillen is rejoined by artist Carlos Pacheco. There’s an early sequence with Magik, Colossus and Danger that’s perfectly delivered with haunting visuals and the inner dialogue of the team’s AI prison guard.

Cyclops is looking for a fight. Gillen gives him one courtesy of what could become the X-Men’s version of Ultron. Unit is an eerie hybrid of C3-PO and Dr. Hannibal Lecter (I wish I could take credit for that but that belongs to Gillen.) Unit’s manipulation is the reason why the X-Men and Avengers must team up to protect Earth. The joining of forces makes logical sense and works. Generation Hope and Abigail Brand fans will be thrilled by this issue too.

Great action, a cool villain, good cliffhanger and the chance to see these super teams work together one last time makes this a great read.

Doctor Who’s New Companion from Captain America Movie

Jenna-Louise Coleman courtesy IMDB

Change is the one constant in the Doctor Who universe. The Time Lord is getting a new traveling companion. Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvall) are leaving the show. Jenna Louise Coleman will join Matt Smith next season. Coleman played Connie in Captain America: The First Avenger.

“She’s funny and clever and exactly mad enough to step on board the TARDIS. It’s not often the Doctor meets someone who can talk even faster than he does, but it’s about to happen. Jenna is going to lead him his merriest dance yet. And that’s all you’re getting for now. Who she’s playing, how the Doctor meets her, and even where he finds her, are all part of one of the biggest mysteries the Time Lord ever encounters. Even by the Doctor’s standards, this isn’t your usual boy meets girl,” Executive Producer Steven Moffatt told Spinoff Online.

Battlestar Galactica Blood and Chrome Trailer!

Luke Pasqualino courtesy IMDB

io9 posted the what’s being called a trailer for the Battlestar Galactica prequel Blood and Chrome. The story follows a young William Adama (played by Luke Pasqualino) in the first Cylon War. io9 reports SyFy ‘demoted’ the mini-series from television to the web. Take a look and see!

So Say We All? Should SyFy put this back on the network? The song used with the trailer is perfect. It’s Trent Reznor’s remake of “Immigrant Song” he made for the U.S. version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo which makes me suspect this could be a fan trailer or an in-house trailer not meant for the public. Regardless, the images looks great and I’m in!

Special Note: The man who played Admiral Adama, Edward James Olmos, will be appearing at Emerald City Comicon on Friday, March 30th.
