Catwoman and Thor Fighting Robots!?

Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises courtesy Warner Brothers

Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight Rises) is Steven Spielberg’s choice for the female lead in his film based on Robopocalypse according to Deadline. Chris Hemsworth (Thor, The Avengers) is playing the lead which in the book is named Cormac Wallace, leader of “Bright Boy” squadron.

Variety reports Ben Wishaw (the new Q in Skyfall) may join the cast as Lurker, the London computer hacker turned hero. Lurker’s cat and mouse game with the A.I. Archos is one of the creepiest and most suspenseful of the book to me. I’m already imagining what actor should voice Archos!

I love Daniel H. Wilson’s book about the robot uprising and humanity’s struggle to survive. I would love to see Hathaway and Hemsworth in any movie – I think they’ll have great chemistry – even in the aftermath of a robot apocalypse!

X-Men Legend at Emerald City Comicon 2013

This is the image that started my love of comic books! Find this image on Marvel.com

Chris Claremont is coming to Emerald City Comicon 2013 in Seattle! You don’t understand. Uncanny X-Men #116 by Claremont and John Byrne was my first comic book! Claremont’s classic 17 year X-Men run was the story of my growing up. The Dark Phoenix Saga can still make me tear up.

This is the man who helped create Kitty Pryde, Gambit, Emma Frost, Rogue and Sabretooth. Claremont took Logan (aka Patch) to Madripoor for the launch of the first Wolverine solo title and teamed with Frank Miller on the classic Wolverine limited series – the basis for Hugh Jackman’s next film The Wolverine.

Claremont brought the Children of the Atom back together in early 90’s and launched the second X-title – X-Men #1 with Jim Lee. I highly recommend the Claremont/Alan Davis era of Excalibur and for real old school fun grab his Power Man & Iron Fist collection with Byrne.

Emerald City Comicon is March 1-3, 2013 in Seattle – the greatest event in the Northwest all year! I just hope I don’t start drooling when I meet Claremont  and say something like  “You know when you wrote the Proteus Saga on Muir Island….ha ha that was awesome!”

Wolverine and Doop by Allred

Wolverine and the X-Men #17 courtesy Marvel

There are many reasons to love Jason Aaron’s Wolverine and the X-Men: Kitty & Iceman’s growing attraction, Kid Gladiator, Bamfs, Broo, Beast in full wacky professor mode, Logan’s tempter tested by Kid Omega, Toad’s crush on Husk and then there’s Doop!

Mike and Laura Allred crafted the cover for this week’s Wolverine and the X-Men #17 featuring Logan and Doop ready for action! The staff and students of the Jean Grey School try to soldier on despite the world burning in the grip of the Phoenix. One student may not survive this AvX tie-in.

Allred co-created Doop with Peter Milligan back in an X-Force reboot which became X-Statix. Doop is now on staff at the Jean Grey School. Just one of the many characters Jason Aaron has on an amazing and eclectic palette of characters on the tite.

New Artist for Winter Soldier

Winter Soldier #15 courtesy Marvel

I love Bucky Barnes. Sometimes the greatest heroes rise up from the darkest places. Ed Brubaker did the unthinkable a few years ago – he brought Bucky back from the dead as a brainwashed assassin. Cap saved Bucky and set him on the road to redemption and even made him Captain America for a time. Winter Soldier is my favorite new series of 2012 as Bucky assumed the Winter Soldier role and partnered with his lover the Black Widow to hunt the ghosts and mistakes of his past. Ed Brubaker is leaving Cap, Bucky and superhero comics for now. (His Image creator owned Fatale is amazing and will disturb and thrill you!)

New writer Jason LaTour and artist Nic Klein take over Bucky’s journey with Winter Soldier #15.  Klein tells Marvel.com his visual take on Bucky will reflect where the character is left as LaTour takes over from Brubaker.

“On a visual level I like that Bucky’s costume is very dark, and, depending on who draws him, it can be very silhouette-like,” Klein says. “Bucky is also in a strange place in his life in this new arc, a not too happy place, so it will be fun to have some moody character moments. It will also be the first time I get to draw a character with a bionic arm, which brings in some 1990’s nostalgia in me, having grown up on comic books with such heroes.”

LaTour and Klein take over Winter Soldier this January.

Captain America 2 will be The Winter Soldier. Sebastian Stan returns as Bucky Barnes.

Superman & Wonder Embrace in Space!

Justice League #12 courtesy DC Comics

Superman and Wonder Woman finally expressed their love and shared a kiss in Justice League #12. Buzzfeed shared Jim Lee’s cover for the reprint of the future classic issue in which DC’s most powerful man and woman declared their love and began their super-romance. The second printing of Justice League #12 arrives this Wednesday.

Is this a signal that Kal-El and Diana will keep their romance a secret from the world and other heroes?

All-New X-Men Beast Preview

All-New X-Men #1 courtesy Marvel

The Children of the Atom will mutate as new creative team Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen launch All-New X-Men #1.

The five original X-Men are yanked from the past and into the Marvel Now. Can you imagine young Henry McCoy’s reaction when he meets his future self? Immonen’s depiction of the furry blue Beast is seen in this new interior art courtesy Marvel.com . This preview includes an except from Bendis’ script.

I am mutating.

And it is [REDACTED].

This popped in my head – could the arrival of the younger X-Men trigger the end of their future and current counterparts? What would Doctor Who say? Hang with me – you know what they always say in sci-fi movies about the impact to the timestream if you actually meet your other self? Could the young McCoy’s arrival trigger Hank to completely evolve to a Beast or hold the key to curing him?

There’s a definitely long-term reason Bendis brought the original five into the Marvel NOW. I have to imagine the shock of the young X-Men as they witness what’s happened to their dream and to their leader. Maybe the kids will have a dark agenda when it comes to their current selves. This blast from the past may want to blast away the status quo and start new?
