Creating new mutants is hard. For every Gambit, there’s a Maggot. Brian Michael Bendis took on the challenge of writing the X-Men just when the mutant race is booming again with new mutants.

Cyclops, Magneto, Emma Frost and Magik have been recruiting new Children of the Atom for his revolution in All-New X-Men. We’ve met healer Christopher Muse, time manipulator Eva Bell and shape-changer Benjamin Deeds. The teens are now at the covert Charles Xavier School.

Ahead of next week’s Uncanny X-Men #1 Bendis talked about the new recruits on Marvel.com. Eva, Benjamin and Christopher’s lives have suddenly changed but they’ll be looking back.

“They’ll be doing that right away. “Can I go get my stuff? Can I go talk to my mom?” A lot of Australians seem to be very happy that Eva’s from Australia. I wasn’t aware that there was such a dearth of Australian heroes. I got so much happy mail and tweets from Australian people. We will be going back to the Gold Coast in issues #2 and #3 of UNCANNY X-MEN to find out what the deal with Eva is. I like Eva a lot. I like writing her a lot. For people who liked Jessica Jones and Maria Hill, I think they’re going to get a kick Continue reading New Mutants of Uncanny X-Men

Arrow is a smash in Starling City on The CW. The Green Arrow comic book is set in my Emerald City, Seattle. In this week’s Green Arrow #17 new creative team Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino took over the book. The Kill Machine Part 1 ended with a violent double shocker for the Emerald Archer. Oliver Queen has lost his fortune and father’s firm. As Ollie confronted the man accused of ruining his father’s legacy… Continue reading New GREEN ARROW Villain!

Uncanny X-Men’s Emma Frost

Emma Frost is the best thing to happen to Scott Summers. Yes, I said it. That doesn’t mean I don’t love Jean Grey. I loved the Scott/Emma relationship but the power couple is out of love but still allied to save the mutant race.

In the aftermath of Avengers vs. X-Men Emma has lost her great love, her powers are chaotic and she’s been branded a villain again. Brian Michael Bendis teases what’s next for the former White Queen in his upcoming Uncanny X-Men.

“The Emma Frost thing is very interesting. This is the most controversial character amongst all X-fans. This is really fascinating. Avengers fans never did this to me, but every X-Men fan does. When they want to show me something about a character, they come at me with a visual aid. They cut out a panel or a page and either e-mail it to me or post it on my Twitter. It’s like they’re a lawyer with evidence. You would think that Daredevil fans would Continue reading Uncanny X-Men’s Emma Frost

Secret Origin of Tony Stark

Tony Stark is a self-described futurist but Kieron Gillen will explore Iron Man’s hidden past in The Secret Origin of Tony Stark.

“Howard Stark has a secret. A dirty dirty secret,” Gillen kicked off the Marvel.com liveblog.

“I was walking through the airport thinking I wanted to do
something meaningful that hearkened back to the beginning of Iron Man for his
50th anniversary and also spliced in some stuff with the Guardians of the
Galaxy. I thought to do all that would be impossible. Then I had an idea. Then I
laughed, because I couldn’t do that. And now…”

“Tony discovers something from the past that Continue reading Secret Origin of Tony Stark

DC Comics Gets Political!

Comic books have often reflected social issues of the time. Class struggle was a key element in The Dark Knight Rises. The Occupy Wall Street movement is the inspiration for two all-new comic books. Each book will tackle a side of the movement. DC Comics announced the two brand new series via Huffington Post.

Gail Simone (Batgirl, Birds of Prey) and Freddie Williams III (Batwoman) are the creative team on The Movement.

THE MOVEMENT is an idea I’ve had for some time,” Simone told The Huffington Post. “It’s a book about power — who owns it, who uses it, who suffers from its abuse. As we increasingly move to an age where information is currency, you get these situations where a single viral video Continue reading DC Comics Gets Political!

Is Magneto the Uncanny X-Men Traitor?

Cyclops has become the new Magneto. The mutant race has been reborn. Scott Summers will do anything to make sure the new mutants are safe. The new mutant revolution begins in the upcoming Uncanny X-Men #1 by Brian Michael Bendis.

Magneto has been the X-Men’s archenemy, ally, enemy again but when Cyclops united the endangered race on Utopia Erik pledged his allegiance to him. During Avengers vs. X-Men Erik was Scott’s ally, sounding board and mentor. Bendis explains why Magneto is on Cyclops’s team.

“I think that having Magneto there lets everybody know that Cyclops isn’t messing around. Cyclops is talking a good game, but when you’re standing there next to Hitler, it has people pay very close attention to what you’re saying. He says he doesn’t want people to be scared of him, but then why are you standing next to this guy? I think that Cyclops likes having this tough father figure around. I think it’s just the way he’s wired. Continue reading Is Magneto the Uncanny X-Men Traitor?

X-Men’s Magik Touch

She was once called a “little snowflake” but that reputation has been burned away and you could call Illyana Rasputin a devil child! Magik is one of the few mutant teleporters alive and she’s a mistress of the demonic arts – that makes her a powerful ally of Cyclops’s team but a dangerous wild card!

Brian Michael Bendis and Chris Bachalo will unleash Magik in Uncanny X-Men #1. Bendis tells Marvel.com why Scott wants Illyana on his revolution team: Continue reading X-Men’s Magik Touch

Two of Marvel’s hottest heroines will jump from comic books into their own novels! Rogue (X-Men, Uncanny Avengers) and She-Hulk (FF, Avengers) will headline two new novels from Hyperion Books and Marvel Entertainment.

Here’s how Marvel describes the novels:

In The “She-Hulk Diaries,” Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk, juggles climbing the corporate ladder by day and battling villains and saving the world by night—all while trying to navigate the dating world to find a Mr. Right who might not mind a sometimes-very big and green girlfriend.

Rogue Touch,” features one of the most popular X-Men characters, Rogue, a young woman trying to navigate the challenges of everyday life and romance—except that her touch is deadly. After accidentally putting her first boyfriend in a coma, she runs away from home where, she meets the handsome and otherworldly James and sparks fly. Like Rogue, however, James’ life is hardly simple. To elude his mysterious and dangerous family, James shaves his head, dons all black. Stealing a car, they head out on the highway and eventually, Rogue has to decide whether she will unleash her devastating powers in order to save the only man alive who seems to truly understand her.”

In the comics Rogue has been in an ongoing triangle with Gambit and Magneto but is currently solo. She-Hulk’s conquests include Hercules, Juggernaut and Wyatt Wingfoot. Let’s hope Rogue and Jen find better luck at love in the novels!
