Anne Hathaway Would Have Been Black Cat in Spidey 4

Speculation is fun but sometimes Hollywood confessions make you ponder what might have been. Case in point: Imagine Anne Hathaway as Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat! Director Sam Raimi tells Vulture he wanted the now Oscar winner to play the femme fatale in Spider-Man 4 and about how his fourth Spidey film didn’t happen.

“It really was the most amicable and undramatic of breakups: It was simply that we had a deadline and I couldn’t get the story to work on a level that I wanted it to work. I was very unhappy with Spider-Man 3, and I wanted to make Spider-Man 4 to end on a very high note, the best Spider-Man of them all. But I couldn’t get the script together in time, due to my own failings, and I said to Sony, “I don’t want to make a movie Continue reading Anne Hathaway Would Have Been Black Cat in Spidey 4

Whovians are counting down to the return of Doctor Who! In the second half of the new season the Time Lord and new companion Clara will face an old enemy! The reptilian Ice Warriors from Mars have a new look as you can see in this image courtesy BBC One.

The Time Lord last fought the Ice Warriors in the The Monster of Peladon starring Jon Pertwee as the Doctor and Elizabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith back in 1974.

Gambit’s New Lady and Rogue Reunion

For longtime X-Men fans Gambit and Rogue will always be their favorite couple (as you can see by these Emerald City Comicon cosplayers) but Remy has been flirting with danger in his solo series by James Asmus and Clay Mann. Gambit’s globetrotting adventures have him crossing paths with a female thief named Joelle. Asmus talked with Marvel.com about Remy’s new partner in crime.

“My editor Daniel Ketchum had liked the idea of bringing  in a thieving lady counterpart to Gambit. I was particularly interested in  capturing the energy that made me so intrigued with Gambit in his early years:  the fact that you weren’t really sure if you trusted his motivations, or even  what he said, but he was able to charm and disarm those around him.

We’ve learned a lot about Gambit since then, but I thought that creating that  push-pull attraction and question of trust with another character would let me  revive part of what I loved in early Gambit stories. From there, the actual  character of Joelle has evolved some as we’ve gone, for a lot of reasons. But  the core idea behind her and the answers to her major mysteries haven’t changed.”

The writer confirms Rogue will guest star and explains her connection with Remy:

“I think at the moment, she’s very worried about the trajectory he’s on. I’m looking at their relationship through a few personal  lenses. I’ve been on both sides of break-ups where one person’s afraid they  might’ve lit a self-destructive fuse in the other. These two will always care  about each other, but it’s never been easy. And I think she can’t help but be  curious if this mysterious new woman, Joelle, is pulling Gambit irreparably  away.”

In case you’re haven’t checked this series out yet, think of this book as Remy cutting loose and sharpening his criminal skills – stealing from the bad guys of course. Spider-Man villain Tombstone appears in the current issue.

Uncanny Avengers vs. Apocalypse!

The Uncanny Avengers become targets of the classic X-Men villain Apocalypse in the next arc. The immortal mutant played a huge role in Rick Remender’s Uncanny X-Force run even though he didn’t appear in his iconic form. Remender tells Marvel.com how Apocalypse factors into the next arc Ragnarok Now.

“Well the important thing was to find a way to mix the A and the X. And that was a lot of work. So I threw out most of my outline for the sequel to the Dark Angel Saga. And I kept the four most important things that I was excited about and the things that most closely tie in to characters like Wolverine or Sunfire, characters that have been tainted by this and manipulated by [Apocalypse]. So as I was building [the story], it was important to find how it was an X-Men story and also Continue reading Uncanny Avengers vs. Apocalypse!

Prepare for HARBINGER WARS

Emerald City Comicon attendees got a look at the big event set to shake the Valiant Universe next month. I grabbed a free copy of the Harbinger Wars sketchbook. Inside fans are treated to character designs for the Project Rising Spirit strike team by Khari Evans, a flashback of super villain Toyo Harada and interior black and white art from Harbinger Wars #1 by Clayton Henry.

The 12-issue crossover begins in April kicking off in Harbinger Wars #1, Harbinger #11 and Bloodshot #10. A struggle between reformed Harbinger hunter Bloodshoot and Harada for control of empowered children with hero Pete Stanchek caught in the middle. Harbinger was and is my favorite series of the Valiant generations.

This was Valiant’s first appearance at Emerald City Comicon in Seattle. Legendary artist Barry Kitson (current Bloodshot artist) was on site to meet fans along with books and new Shadowman logo t-shirt.

Harbinger Wars #1 by Joshua Dysart, Duane Swiercynzski, Clayton Henry and Clayton Crain hits April 3rd.

CABLE AND X-FORCE Family Values

A book for Hope Summers fans to watch out for! Cable faces his daughter, the mutant messiah of Avengers vs. X-Men in this week’s Cable and X-Force #8.

Hope Summers has been “exiled” from the flagship X-titles. I wanted to share some of writer Dennis Hopeless’s take on the Summers family dynamic. He says he’s explore Nathan’s relationship with the girl he raised and his father, Cyclops.

“I think in both cases, the relationship is hard because of how similar the fathers are to their children. Hope drives Cable nuts because she’s just like him. She’s headstrong and self-righteous, quick to grab a gun and solve every problem herself. Cable knows she learned it by watching him but wants his daughter to have an easier life than he did. Also, he trained her for life in a post-apocalyptic Continue reading CABLE AND X-FORCE Family Values
