X-MEN Showdown!

All-New X-Men #10 is the showdown we’ve been waiting for since Brian Michael Bendis took on the Children of the Atom. Cyclops, Emma Frost, Magneto and Magik arrive at the Jean Grey School to recruit Logan’s students and staff away…to the new Xavier School.

Wolverine does not take it well.

There’s a passionate debate over what it means to be an X-Man, who shares responsibility for Avengers vs. X-Men and the Professor’s death. There’s a lot of talk but it’s so masterfully written and drawn. This All-New versus Uncanny X-Men is not an action packed showdown but an intense, impassioned, thought-provoking conflict on what it means to be a mutant in the post-AvX world.

Beast may have brought the young X-Men from the past into the present to change Scott but the future shock is affecting the once “innocent” X-Men in unexpected ways.

Mystique and Sabretooth continue their violent crime spree putting the mutant conflict on the front burner of S.H.I.E.L.D. and we’re left with a cliffhanger that made mutant jaws drop! Will an X-Man switch sides or this just a new twist of Bendis’s plots within plots?

Harbinger Wars #1 Review

Powerful children have been hunted, imprisoned and tortured by rival programs who want to turn them into living weapons. The battle to control these kids explodes into full-blown war in Valiant Entertainment’s first crossover.

Harbinger Wars #1 kicked off this week with a tightly paced, action packed tale of renegade teens, dangerous powers, sinister agencies and a deadly assassin hoping to make up for past crimes.

The Harada Foundation and Project Rising Spirit have fought over the fate of gifted young people called Harbingers. Pete Stancheck and his team hate them both. Bloodshot is a living weapon who broke programming and wants to protect the young Harbingers he once hunted. Harbinger Wars has been brewing since Valiant’s rebirth last summer but you pick up this issue and enjoy the wild ride.

There are three artists in this issue (Clayton Henry, Clayton Crain, Mico Suyan) but it’s a perfect creative choice for the three forces vying for power. There are lot of characters but the writers make you immediately engaged and invested in the players. Joshua Dysart and Duane Swiercyznski craft an exciting premiere issue to a crossover that feels like great stories colliding and not just a marketing stunt.

Harbinger Wars continues in Harbinger #11 next week and Bloodshot #10 in two weeks!

THANOS RISING Review

I feel a little uneasy right now after having just read Thanos Rising #1. Jason Aaron and Simone Bianchi actually made me feel sympathy and empathy for the most cold-blooded, ruthless killer in the Marvel Universe.

The Demi-God who worships Death comes to the planet of his birth and flashes back to his birth. Is a villain born evil, does he grew up that way or is manipulated into his deadly legacy?

As I read this first issue I was reminded of the boys in Stephen King’s Stand By Me, Norman Bates in Psycho and  Continue reading THANOS RISING Review
