Friday Flashback! X-Tinction Agenda

Way back when there was only one X-Men book…seriously just one!

There was an X-Factor (the original 5 X-Men reunited) and the New Mutants (with a just introduced Cable, future founder of the first X-Force) but only one X-Book and Chris Claremont was at the top of his game with a thrilling, socially relevant epic.

At my local comic book shop’s 38th Anniversary I picked up the X-Tinction Agenda hardcover (at 38% off thanks to Zanadu) and relived the exciting epic I haven’t read since the original issues first hit shelves.

Genosha was an island nation that considered mutants a national resource and not citizens. Mutants were slave labor Continue reading Friday Flashback! X-Tinction Agenda

YOUNG AVENGERS #9 I’m Back In

Love the characters. Love the creators. Love the book?

The Marvel Now Young Avengers started strong with as a perfect combo of action, humor, teen angst and then the multiverse happened. In the tradition of Excalibur’s Cross-Time Caper, I feel the new Young Avengers didn’t get a chance to really set up themselves before being sent on an ambitious storyline that I couldn’t wrap my head around. I’m not young comic book reader I used to be.

With Young Avengers #9 this week I’m thrilled to say I’m back in! Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie craft a rapid fire conclusion packed with chases, confrontations, and romantic twists as the kids find their way back to Earth and for some a crossroads that changes the team dynamic. Kid Loki is at his wicked best. David and Teddy’s kiss has a big impact while showing why comic book heroics are the perfect platform to explore real social issues. Who knew Prodigy could be so intriguing?

Young Avengers is one of the most ambitious, funniest and innovative books out there but Gillen and McKelvie go straight for the heart with the final panels and may have the broken hearts of some fans. (This one’s for your Cutler!)

Marvel confirmed James Spader will play Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The Emmy-Award Winner television and film actor (The Blacklist) will play the evil artificial intelligence and the legendary enemy of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Joss Whedon returns to write and direct the sequel coming in 2015. No word on if Spader will be the voice of Ultron or the portrayal. Whedon has stated the origin of Ultron will be different from the comic books.

Here’s my theory on who will create Ultron and I guess we can now disregard my theory on who will play him! What do you think of Spader’s casting and the theory – once you read it!
