OUT OF TIME X-MEN

Mutants of the future could be wiped out in EXTERMINATION, a new X-Men event. With the original Xavier students from the past as the prime targets on the cover I got to thinking about all the out of time X-Men.

As much I love some of the characters, I often thought there are way too many X-Men from the future timelines running around – what if they were all sent back to their own time?

Here are the out of time X-Men:

Rachel Summers

The most important, iconic and tragic characters in X-Men future history. Introduced in the two-part DAYS OF FUTURE PAST epic, Rachel is the daughter of Scott Summers and Jean Grey. Rachel grew up in a twisted future where mutants were hunted or killed by Sentinels. Rachel was one of the surviving X-Men living in a prison camp. Kitty Pryde went into her past body to prevent the assassination that caused this dark future. Rachel later went into her past to join the X-Men and later Excalibur. Rachel inherited her mother’s telepathic and telekinetic powers and became host for the Phoenix Force too. Rachel currently goes by the code-name Prestige as part of the X-MEN GOLD.

CABLE

Nathan Summers is the son of Scott Summers and Madolyn Pryor, a Jean Grey clone engineered by Mister Sinister. As an infant, Nathan was infected with what’s called a techno-organic virus. Scott allowed his baby to taken to the future where (by a grown up Rachel Summers) where there was hope to stop the virus. Nathan grew up, his telekinetic mutant powers manifested helping him control the virus and he became a cyborg. Nathan led the revolution against Apocalypse who ruled this future. But we first met Cable in the NEW MUTANTS/X-FORCE era as a soldier for mutant rights and connections to mercenaries Domino and Deadpool.

BISHOP

Lucas Bishop was a top cop in the Xavier Security Enforcers – mutants policing mutants. Bishop pursued Trevor Fitzroy (a mutant who could create time portals by absorbing the life force of others) and became trapped in the present and joined the fallen heroes who inspired him – the X-Men. Bishop’s power is to absorb and re-channel energy. Bishop’s future trauma forced him to attack his fellow X-Men including Gambit (he was convinced Remy was a foretold traitor) and even Professor Xavier. Lucas is back on track and can be seen in ASTONISHING X-MEN.

JEAN, SCOTT, HANK, BOBBY, WARREN – The Original Five

Beast of the present took a drastic action to try to convince the present day Scott Summers how far away he was from Xavier’s dream. Cyclops had become the new Magneto. Beast went back in time to bring the younger versions of the original team from the past into the present to help convince Scott of his extreme ways and bring the X-Men back together. The blast from past has multiple impacts. Young Jean’s power were just manifesting and she saw her entire future past like psychic shock. Determined to change their future, Jean convinced the team to stay in the present. Young Jean didn’t survive her eventual showdown with The Phoenix but now the original – the older – Jean Grey is back and leading X-MEN RED. Young Angel was affected by The Black Vortex and developed cosmic flamed wings. Young Bobby came out of the closet and confronted his older self who also came out after a lifetime in denial.

KYMERA

Daughter of Storm and the Black Panther (presumed but not confirmed) from the future in the BATTLE OF THE ATOM story. Kymera appeared to have the mutant power to communicate and control animals and she was an expert tracker. While her future X-team returned, Kymera remained in the present to hunt down the remaining members of a future Brotherhood who had come back in time to wipe out the original X-Men from the past who were in the present day.

Dishonorable Mention:

RAZE The mastermind behind BATTLE OF THE ATOM was the future son of Wolverine and Mystique.

There they are. The mutants of future present. Who will survive what’s coming?

EXTERMINATION #1 by Ed Brisson and Pepe Larraz arrives in August.
