The countdown to MARVEL LEGACY is on. Cap is back. Thor no more? Falcon soars again.
After a massive one-shot featuring the prehistoric Avengers, the MARVEL LEGACY will feature new books, titles returning to original numbering, special covers paying homage to Marvel past.
Who will wield the shield? The hammer? How will past affect the future of Marvel’s heroes?
Here are our most anticipated MARVEL LEGACY books:
CABLE #150 NEWER MUTANTS The cyborg son of Cyclops first appeared in the pages of NEW MUTANTS which evolved into X-FORCE. Nathan recruited a team of young mutants in his crusade to change the future world he grew up in. Cable’s book returns to original renumbering (with interesting math over several Cable starring and co-starring titles) with a new creative team: Ed Brisson and Jon Malin. Who are his Newer Mutants? Blink, Longshot, Shatterstar, Armor, x-23 and Doop grace the cover sending 90’s nostalgic vibes. Laura is not in her current All-New Wolverine attire but in her NYX and New X-Men: Academy X-Men X-23 look. This may mean Cable pulled this squad from across the timelines.
INCREDIBLE HULK #708 RETURN TO PLANET HULK Writer Greg Pak sends Amadeus Cho to Sakaar, the planet Bruce Banner crashed on in his PLANET HULK arc. The epic story of the Green Goliath fighting in gladiator games on an alien world was an influential story inspiring sequels, spinoffs and (in part) inspiration for the upcoming THOR RAGNAROK.
MARVEL-TWO-IN-ONE #1 Thing & Human Torch together again. Two out of FOUR are a good start. A big part of Marvel’s legacy is the original Marvel-Two-In-One which featured Ben Grimm with different guest stars each issue in classic stories like The Pegasus Project. Will the revival of this classic team-up book lead to the highly anticipated return of Marvel’s First Family in a new Fantastic Four.
CAPTAIN AMERICA #695 The Eisner Award winning team of Mark Waid and Chris Samnee reunite to relaunch Steve Rogers as the Star-Spangled Avenger this November. Announced at SDCC, Waid and Samnee will give Rogers a “back to basics” approach following their runs on DAREDEVIL and BLACK WIDOW. Nick Spencer’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: STEVE ROGERS and SAM WILSON and SECRET EMPIRE gave us a shocking rewrite of Cap’s history. The powerful, controversial storyline divided fans. It was the unthinkable. Steve Rogers – Hydra. So was the resurrection of Bucky Barnes. Heroes must fall, be tested – even fail – so we can cheer as the fight for redemption and rise to heroic greatness again. I’m ready for Steve Rogers the Star-Spangled Avenger again but I appreciate this return because of the Spencer’s Hydra epic.
THE MIGHTY THOR #700 THE DEATH OF THE MIGHTY THOR begins. The iconic title goes back to its original numbering. Is the original Thor returning to the lead role? Jason Aaaron and Russell Dauterman continue the emotional epic journey of Jane Foster, Goddess of Thunder. Will Jane from cancer or in battle? THE MIGHTY THOR run has been a perfect marriage of character and creators told with thrilling action and raw emotion. I miss the Odinson as the Thunder God but I absolutely LOVE Jane – my favorite book of the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now era.
It all begins with MARVEL LEGACY one-shot by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic.
