Bringing humanity to Apocalypse?
One of the X-Men’s most ruthless and vicious enemies takes on the Children of the Atom in the next big screen adventure.
Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year) will play En Sabah Nur in X-Men: Apocalypse and reveals director Bryan Singer’s approach to portraying the classic villain.
“In the early conversations we talked a lot about that [Apocalypse’s distinct point of view and agenda],” Isaac told IGN. “Of course, you read the comic book, and [Apocalypse is] not so shaded with gray — except his face. [Laughs] That’s the only thing gray about him.”
“Just as Bryan’s done with the other films, I think he seeks to find something a little more interesting than the archetypal aspects of the characters, which work really well in print, but for a film I think you want to see a bit more of the — for lack of a better word — humanity in [Apocalypse]; because ultimately this is a story about humans.”
Apocalypse is believed to be the first mutant born in ancient Egypt. The mysterious, gray skinned child was raised by a tribe who followed the mantra, “only the strong survive” which imprinted on the mutant. Apocalypse would spend centuries pitting mutant against mutant in preparation for the ultimate battle with non-mutants for control of the planet.
Apocalypse corrupted and transformed X-Men Angel, Sunfire and Gambit into becoming his Horsemen.
X-Men: Apocalypse opens in May 2016.
