A double shot of Old Man Logan by Jeff Lemire in two books this week with one deadly mission revealed.

Old Man Logan lived in a future where the villains banded together to wipe out the heroes and rule the planet. Wolverine was tricked into killing his fellow X-Men but he found refuge and happiness in a desert wasteland until a savage gang of Hulks slaughtered his family.

The Wolverine of Mark Millar’s future tale returned in Secret Wars and is now in the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now reality just a few years from the horrific future he escaped.

The former X-Man is part of Storm’s Extraordinary X-Men but he has his own mission of vengeance mixed with redemption in Old Man Logan – both by Jeff Lemire.

The writer revealed the older Wolverine would arrive in New York “naked with scores to settle” and the first score went down in a brutal confrontation running parallel to a poignant scene of Logan with his young son from the future.

Logan reveals his new mission and sets the stage for a huge showdown with someone who so far has been MIA in since the Secret Wars relaunch.

Before we continue here’s a SPOILER ALERT!

If you have not read Old Man Logan #1 yet stop reading now.

Seriously.

OK.

Here it comes.

Lemire reunites with his Green Arrow artist Andrea Sorrentino, who worked with Brian Michael Bendis on the Secret Wars tie-in that showed Old Man Logan’s journey across Battleworld into the new Marvel reality.

We see a painful look at Old Man Logan’s life in the future. Logan and his son are trying to trade with the Butcher who taunts the former Wolverine and even strikes his child. Logan and son arrive home to see the Hulks standing over the rest of their dead family.

The future memory leads Logan to the lowlife criminal who would become the Butcher. The Wolverine’s claws are unleashed. The Butcher is gutted.

Old Man Logan has decided to prevent the uprising of the united villains, the death of the X-Men and other heroes and the spawning of the Hulks that would slaughter his family. Kill the villains before they can commit the crimes and save the future.

Who is on Logan’s kill list?

Banner.

Mysterio.

Red Skull.

We knew Amadeus Cho, the Totally Amazing Hulk, will clash with Logan in issue two but he’s not the Green Goliath Logan is really after. Cho may be collateral damage. Where is Banner? Will Banner be able to survive Logan’s wrath?

How long can he keep his secret mission from the Extraordinary X-Men as he hunts Mysterio?
