Will Batman’s former sidekick headline a new cable series based on DC Comics teen dreams?
TNT is close to a pilot production order for a series for Titans, based on Teen Titans, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Akiva Goldsman and Marc Haimes would be co-executive producers of the project from Warner Horizon Television and DC Comics.
Titans “revolves around a group of young superheroes-to-be who are recruited from every corner of the DC universe. The action-themed drama centers on Dick Grayson, who emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new superheroes including Starfire, Raven and more. The show is described as a dramatic adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book titles ever.”
The Teen Titans were a “junior Justice League” that debuted in The Brave and Bold.
The Titans were lead by Dick Grayson who became Nightwing after leaving his role as Robin. Donna Troy aka Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, Speedy (sidekick of Green Arrow) and Aqualad were the original teen version of DC’s main heroes who formed the Teen Titans. The team was later joined by alien princess Starfire, a changeling called Beast Boy, Cyborg and the demon sorceress Raven. This is the most famous and popular lineup by the by of Marv Wolfman and George Perez.
The current New 52 comics lineup is Red Robin, Raven, a different Wonder Girl, Beast Boy, Kid Flash and Bunker.
Dick recently gave up the code-name Nightwing to become a spy in the new series Grayson.
No official word on which characters will be used in the series.
