Dick Grayson is no longer Nightwing.
Will a new hero take on the role?
In the aftermath of Forever Evil – Dick will become a super spy operative in Grayson #1.
After assuming the roles of Robin, Nightwing and even Batman – Dick is moving on to a new role without a mask or costume.
Dick’s transformation may seem like a surprise move but it gives many Grayson fans want they’ve wanted. Grayson is a great hero who can’t never really become Batman permanently or could never escape being in Batman’s shadow.
Grayson is now more than a protector of Gotham City. Dick is a global guardian as a super spy taking on terrorism and international criminals while uncovering a conspiracy against DC’s costumed heroes.
The Nightwing identity is so strong the question is…should DC let a new hero assumed the role and wear the mask?
In Batman #28 we saw a sneak preview of Harper Row as Bluebird fighting with the Dark Knight. The Bluebird costume appears to be an homage to Robin and Nightwing – both of whom are dead as far as the world knows. Damian died in the battle against Talia Al Ghul. The world thinks Nightwing died at the hands of Lex Luthor in order stop a bomb in a cruel trap set by the Crime Syndicate.
When the New 52 relaunched Nightwing went red but just look at Comicons and you’ll see fans of Dick Grayson wearing the classic black and blue. There’s even a fan created web series. It’s an iconic look that will never go away in the minds of fans.
With Dick’s new role in Grayson could a young hero step into the Nightwing role and bring back the classic black and blue?
Batman may have an enduring legacy but don’t underestimate the passionate fan base for Richard Grayson in all his roles. Dick’s story continues in Grayson #1.
