The future of the X-Men comics is a little more clear. Marvel named Ultimate Comics Senior Editor Mark Paniccia is now Senior Editor of the X-Men books with veteran X-Book Editor Daniel Ketchum back with the mutant books following the departure of Mike Marts.
Paniccia oversaw the Ultimate Comics line but never worked on a X-book. He is currently editing Ultimate End.
Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso explains why these two are the right choice for the Children of the Atom:
“It was a combination of things. Mark’s a veteran editor who’s never edited X-Men before. With the upcoming demise of the Ultimate Universe, he has some extra bandwidth… but not quite enough to handle the entire X-Men line on his own. That’s why we shifted Daniel — who is a full Editor — over to work in Mark’s office. Daniel assisted me for a couple years so I know he’s got game, he worked his way up to Editor with great work, and he’s very experienced with the X-Men. This is a chance for him to shine. I really like what Mark and Daniel are up to. It’s been a very productive few weeks,” Alonso said on CBR’s Axel-In-Charge.
Paniccia worked on Old Man Logan #1. The Secret Wars tie-in by outgoing X-Men writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Andrea Sorrentino is based on a classic Wolverine epic.
Uncanny X-Men #600 will be the final issue of the Bendis run. The milestone issue arrives in October after Secret Wars. No word on who will take over the X-books but here are our guesses.
